Class of '19 Roll Call...who's applied and who's been accepted

@mom2collegekids‌ I was accepted December 5th, applied about a week before then.

I got an email from them saying they had received my ACT score, which is a 33.

and my grades 9-11 gpa is a 3.7ish

So I do qualify… Yikes. Maybe it did get tossed. I’ll try and contact them.

@jrumery‌

You can try emailing the scholarship office and include your CWID, but likely they’re closed for Christmas.

Okay so for scholarships, i didn’t qualify for anything on the list. I can only hope for a music scholarship which isn’t going to be much…what do I do?

Kind of hard to offer you advice, @BigCev, without knowing your particulars. Are you in state or out?

In general, attending an out-of-state public university is prohibitively expensive for those not receiving merit scholarships.

What are your other options? If you’re in state, it might make sense to complete two years at community college and to transfer to UA as an upperclassman.

@BigCev‌

Are you a music major? Will you be auditioning? If not, what music scholarship are you thinking about?

Are you instate?

How much will your parents pay for college? If Bama isn’t affordable, then what are your safety/affordable schools?

How long will it take to hear back to see if I qualified for any scholarships? I submitted the app before the deadline. Also, is it EC based? Or what do they use to determine these awards?

No, they’re not EC based. They’re based on GPA and test scores.

What are your stats?

You’ll get notified a few days after you’re accepted.

Student Gender: male

Major: Computer Science (engineering)

Applying to the Honors College?: Yes (and accepted!)

Career goal(s): Computer science

Any else you’d like to mention: He got the Presidential Scholarship of about $25,000 + the extra $2500 Computer Science money! We are excited to visit!

When will you be visiting? @chris17mom‌

I have a question about housing. Of course my son wants a good dorm room (preferably with his own bedroom), but it looks like we would have to pay a $200 enrollment deposit + a $25 fee + a $275 housing deposit. Is most of that refundable if he chooses another school? Bama is at the top of our list right now, but if he was admitted to Stanford he might not be so sure anymore!

I believe there are in-person interviews for the CBHP sometime in the Spring…I am really hoping he at least gets invited to the interviews, and we are tentatively planning to visit at that time. However I’m not sure of the exact date of those interviews, or even if he will be invited!

The $275 would be refundable.

@mom2collegekids‌ I was accepted back in September. I’m not talking about the automatic scholarships, I mean for the ones you have to talk about leadership that was due back in Dec 15th. I have a 3.7 W and a 27 Act

Student Gender: Female.

Home State: Not Alabama

Date Applied: Mid October

Date Accepted: Early November

Have you visited the campus?: Nope :(

Major: English, maybe Journalism

Applying to the Honors College?: Nope. Test scores aren’t high enough (1970) 1300 on CR and M

Career goal(s): Journalist

Any else you’d like to mention:
Excited to get in. It was my first acceptance! I was so excited to see the student tab when I logged on!

CaliCash Honors college only requires a 1250 SAT, so you would be eligible if you have a 3.5 GPA weighted or unweighted.

@Voiceofreason‌ I have a 1300 super scored and Bama doesn’t super score :(

Thanks CaliCash for the correction. I am sorry that your scores do not qualify. I hope you can get the necessary score in the future, I don’t think there is a restriction of when you need to get the qualifying score for honors like the merit scholarship requirement.

D was accepted but we were not sure about scholarships. She did fill out the online form but we assume we just have to wait? Also are you certain the housing deposit is refundable? If I understand this correctly, the hosing deposit cannot be paid until the non-refundable enrollment deposit has been paid? Anything different for National Merit Semi Finalists?

housing deposit is refundable. enrollment must be paid first. Nothing different for NMSFs. If she wants her choice of dorms, she needs to deposit ASAP!

@saismom When was your D accepted? Are you saying that she’s received no scholarship letter yet?

edited to add…your D was accepted months ago. Are you saying that she never got any scholarship award letter? If that is the case, then send an email to scholarship with her CWID. She should have long received her Presidential full tuition award.

No. Sorry for the confusion. She received several scholarship letters from both engineering as well as from the university. What confused us were several emails she received in the last month alerting her that “no scholarship application” has been received. She did complete the online application by December 15th but now we are wondering if this is a different application? We assume the automatic scholarships for high GPA and SAT/ACT are exactly that- automatic. She has not designated UA for her National Merit choice yet because she still isn’t sure. She wants to tour engineering again since she had only focused on Aero during our summer visit and now the dual electrical/physics degree path looks interesting to her. Fingers crossed for CBH as well.
