CONGRATS class of 2007!

And a most special congrats to MountaineerMom's son!!

Thank you for your thoughts, Jamzmom. The Graduation Weekend went by so quickly, I wonder if I lost a day! The weather was just about perfect from start to finish. Try and beat that. It was a bittersweet weekend, knowing this was, for the most part, my last time to walk on campus and take in the activities. Perhaps the one thing I truly appreciated most, was that Sen. McCain left politics at the gate, and spoke to all the graduates as a fellow Service Academy grad. He was able to laugh at himself, and yet, share how he drew on his training to get through the toughest five years of his life as a POW. His life as a midshipman was his common bond, and he spoke to the graduates as fellow comrades. It was a wonderful ceremony, a day that will never fade in memory. Congratulations to all the Grads!

I almost forgot! While sitting in the bleachers before Commencement started, I saw a certain young midshipman with a familiar looking name on his badge. Could it be the one and only? I asked him...'Are you the famous Spelman from YouTube? He smiled and I knew I had found him! He's a nice looking midshipman, and seemed to be able to take the comment with a sense of humor. Thought some of you might enjoy that little story, knowing how much the YouTube videos have made us laugh..

MountaineerMom

Oh no, does this mean that spellman graduated? I've so enjoyed the vids, and hope more are posted LOL.

Nope. You can look forward to more Spelman videos. He was one of the midshipmen assigned to the bleachers to keep the folks in line. I lost track of his rank, so not sure if he goes to sea soon, or if he will be around for several more months.

MountaineerMom

Wow! You got to see your kid graduate, McCain, & Spellman all in the same day! How did you stand all the excitement!! Sounds like it was the best of days. Just remember MountaineerMom. Once a KP Mom, always a KP Mom. Hope you check in with us from time to time & let us know how your family is doing. Can't imagine this place without your helpful posts.

I'd bet that Spellman has more KP fans than McCain. LOL I'd vote for the kid if he ever runs for office. Hubby says Spellmen is KP's version of AFA's dancing cadet. :D We love him!

Lol, the AFA dancing video is good, but spellmans definitely got my vote!

LOL ETMom, they don't call it the "chairforce" for nothing! Agreed, the Oscar goes to KP and Spellman.

i don't know about that. spelman, although good for some laughs has made many enemies. but whatever. as i said before, he's like our class' little puppy that keeps running head first into the sliding glass door, at first you get mad at him, but after a few times, you just start to feel sorry for him. we'll see what happens though.
: )

Still enjoy the puppy's vids!

I saw the video.
And I thought the crack about going Engineering was a hoot... What a great sense of humor this kids have!

And then we went up for a campus tour.....

And GUESS WHAT... He really IS and ENGINEERING MAJOR... *)
Yikes :)

Should be interesting. I'm sending more Duct Tape in the first care package to my 2011 plebe candidate.

yeah we weren't lying... he's been in my section all year...

Maybe someday I will see the humor....

Last week, at Graduation, it was a beautiful day for pictures. My husband and I had terrific seats just behind the wheelchair section of the bleachers. First came the underclassmen. Took a picture. Then came the First Class graduates. Yes, they all look alike in white, but when they are hatless, you do have a chance of picking out your child from the sea of starched uniforms. Then I saw him! Here he comes. Camera is focused, all is ready. He marches right in front of us, and I click! Feeling proud that I got such a 'head on' picture, I relaxed and took a few pictures during the rest of the ceremony. Afterwards, more pictures were taken with fellow grads, and solo pics with the all important 'tube' in hand(pay Wiley Hall $2 if you want to keep the tube!).
That night, after driving 6 hours back to my father in law's home, I anxiously inserted the memory card into my laptop, which I had left at his home rather than risk a theft at the motel room. Here come the pictures. Oh no! This has to be wrong! It isn't! That 'perfect' shot? I never noticed the woman sitting in front of us. But there it was. That perfect shot of my son walking by, had one flaw. The woman must have seen someone she knew and waved her big, thick, metal cane to get his/her attention. And guess where the cane was when I clicked my picture? Five plus midshipmen walking by, and that cane is smack across my son's face, blocking any view of him. That night, I wanted to post the woman's silhouette on the MOST WANTED board at the local PO office.
But all is not lost. In the mail came an offer from ISLAND Photography. They had taken pictures of each of the graduates as they received their diploma from ADM Stewart, a picture with Sen McCain, and a solo picture of the graduate and his diploma tube. Yes! I will pay the ransom fee for copies of these pictures. The check is written. So, to the parents who will be in the stands next year, beware of who sits in front of you! And yes, I am sure some day, I will laugh. But it won't be anytime this month...: )
