The Presidents Chief of State, Andrew Card, just addressed the regiment. He announced that for the first time in the history of Kings Point, we will be visited by the President of the United States. President Bush will be coming to graduation on June 19!

I just got some kinda crazy long rambling email telling me much of the same Flynavy. C'mon now.... Give us a bit more detail from your perspective! I heard he likes you guys & gals alot! ;)

How exciting for all....I've been trying to reach my son via IM but his away message is up...wow, I still can't believe it!

i wonder if this is in response to the dubai ports thing... to show he cares.

It will be the 2nd time I believe. Franklin Roosevelt was the first. It will be the first at a graduation. A well deserved honor for the school and way overdue. The class of '06 is very lucky.

Taffy...be nice

Wow! That may be just the change in history we need to get the president back to USNA in 2010 vice 2009!

Dad2b....we were told on Acceptance Weekend that the sitting President would be at commencement for the class of 2009 at USMMA... so maybe 2010 will be your year :)

I'm thinking that President Bush pushed up the schedule for USMMA so I would not be surprised if he is a no-show at USMMA for 2009. Just speculating of course! The President normally rotates between USNA(2005), USAFA(2004), USCG(2003) and USMA(2002) but it looks like it may go to a 5 academy rotation for the future....or maybe not.

Of course, if a Democrat gets elected in 2008, all bets are off....unfortunately. It looks like Clinton only did the Naval Academy commencements (1994 and 1998).

Really? It's about time!

Mr. Card gave a moving speech, he recounted the day of Sept. 14, 2001, they day that the President first visited ground zero, prayed at the National Cathedral and first convened the War Council. It was amazing to hear a day like that retold by the person closest to him next to his wife. Then Mr. Card started talking about why he left King's Point (to get married) and how he still loves the school and what it taught him. Then he said he was going to try to left restrictions, and then he said "I don't want King's Point to be the step child of the academies." So we were like we are either getting closed down or....then he announced it, will be great for the class of 2006 to get their diplomas and licenses for the President. I'm just happy I'll get to be here to see it. I was going to go home early, because I'll be working Indoc, but this is worth staying around for.

Our son called us about 7:15 last night to tell us the news--when we saw his number on the caller ID we knew it was either really good or really bad news, since he usually only calls on the weekend. He says all the seniors are holding their breaths, taking it with a grain of salt, since they seem to get told things and then stuff changes. Also reminded us that every class is promised on Indoc Day/Parents Weekend that the President will speak at their graduation. I'm hoping it's for real, sounds good to me if Card promised that Bush would be there! A great thing for my son and the rest of '06 to remember! They all really enjoyed the talk by Card.

kpmom, this has to be an exciting propect for you especially. Prayerful mom asked if I had read Mr. Card's bio so I looked it up and found it very interesting that he'd graduated from the University of South Carolina. If anyone can get the Prez to USMMA, it would be a good SC boy! LOL

Actually, G.W. heard about Long Island Ice Tea- and the half-and-half's at Cold Spring Harbor- so no doubt he thought about getting some for himself!! ;)

Now don't forget to download your digitals so there's lots of room for all those photo ops with the Pres!!

Congrats KP!!!!!

Andy Card may have went to USC but he's a "Yankee" through and through. Ever hear his Boston accent? No drawl there...sorry JM.

"A native of Holbrook, Massachusetts, Andy, and his wife Kathleene, have three children and four grandchildren."

I'm glad to see the President come to KP, but I'm with the seniors, I'll take the announcement with a grain of salt. Andrew Card has been a great asset for the Academy for the past few years. I have always been impressed that a man who left a school because it wouldn't allow him to be married can still like the place. I just have a feeling the President will take a pass on the Booze Cruise though ;) haha

just saw this as well:

No way Boss. We're claiming him as a South Carolina boy anyway. I bet he likes sweet tea & boiled p-nuts too! And I must be honest here. When Prayerful Mom first spoke with me she said, "Hey! Where's your southern accent?" She was very let down about it. I did say "ya'll" once to cheer her up. I can turn it off & on for the tourists when they stop by the mansion though. Even my kid who was raised here, hasn't a hint of a southern drawl. Can't believe you didn't ask him about it when you'd talked to him up there! Course then again, maybe he turned it on for the tourists. LOL

I'll be on the booze cruise with George. We have alot to talk about but first he's gonna get such a pinch for trying to give our ports away. ;) Please notice my little winkie faced friend here.... Thanks KP for posting the link. I hadn't seen any official press yet. More good stuff to pass around in the family emails!

You go away for a couple days and the President plans to show up! I hate to be a cynic, but I'm with Taffy - combo of DP Ports, Andy Card and stepchild academy deserves good news. Finally the merchant marine and ports are important politically! We'll take it any way we can get it! Do you think they will get the chapel painted by June? I can only imagine the "spiffing" schedule that's being laid on! :)

To a non-republican...Card's speech was blah except for the announcement that the President was coming. First he was late, but whatever. Second it just sounded like a push G dub. Moving? eh I could care less if he shook everyones hand, if I shake hundreds of peoples hands can I be the president?

Don't get me wrong I'm excited, not cause George Bush is coming, but because the CINC, the PRESIDENT is coming, that's cool.
