Class of 2010. Need help in listing down colleges

<p>Hello,
this is my FIRST TIME to post something on this site.....
yes i'm really new here. </p>

<p>so i'm a rising senior..... class of 2010 yes!!
finally graduating next year.........!!!!!!!!!</p>

<p>anyway
i'm searching for colleges ..listing down..
but i'm so lost and confused.
actually, i'm really afraid that i would not make into any colleges
that I apply.........</p>

<p>okay to start off, a little profile of myself.
Asian female.
My weighted GPA is around.. 4.5 ? 4.45..
unweighted GPA i think.. around 3.8 ? not too sure.
In freshman year, I've only had 1 honor class which was Algebra honors.
I didn't know anything about taking honor classes back then lol.
Then starting from sophomore year, i started to take honor.ap classes.
so i had 3 honor/ap classes.<br>
English Honors. Pre-AP World History. Geometry honors.
in Junior year.. i had 4 honor/ap classes.
AP Psychology. AP US History. Algebra2 Honors. AP English Language and Composition.
But for senior year
i only have 2 honor classes.
which is Physics and Calculus honors !<br>
( i heard that senior classes matter alot..... so i'm worried)</p>

<p>Also
honestly, I really suck @ taking tests in timed manner.....
My AP scores are HORRIBLE !!!! ( do i have to report my AP scores if i took AP classes..and would it affect in admission process? i'm really scared)
and I took my very first SAT in this June....
CR 590 (i suck at CR ! need to improve definitely)
Math 640 (my mom was so disappointed...she thought i was like every other asian kid getting 800 easily)
Writing 660.... essay score 10.
so overall 1890. i know i really need to improve with SAT.</p>

<p>i'm planning to take all upcoming SATs and also try ACT.</p>

<p>I have several leadership positions.
such as Class treasurer in sophomore year.
NHS Treasurer.
Soroptomist club VP
Student Council Marking chairperson.
My church youthgroup president.
Junior Achievement Program President of the company.. (also won best comp of the year)
and........that's all i can think of for now.</p>

<p>I have decent community service hours..
since our school requires certain hours each quarter...for theology classes.
also our NHS does comm service like every weekend......
and i also have my church youth group services i've done..</p>

<p>My dream school is UCLA............. (used to be Stanford lol and still is but.. i doubt it)
but i'm really losing confidence in myself as time goes by :( ......
anyway
i'm planning to apply to UC's
UCLA . UCB (not sure yet..) UCIrvine. and UCSD (my 2nd choice! )</p>

<p>i'm also considering
SUNY stony brook.
Pacific University @ California.
University at Illinois Urbana Champaign...</p>

<p>Those are the only schools i've got down so far..
but I think i need more SAFETY schools!</p>

<p>OHHH and
I want to be a dentist! not sure which dentist yet.. but for now, looking at
orthodontist!
So I want to major in Pre-dentistry...
i know that you 're not required to major pre-dent in college but i just want
to start off early...to find out more about it.
Or i 'm also thinking about "biology" or "chemistry" majors.
and for SATII subject tests.
i'm plannin to take Korean and MATH II and CHem. </p>

<p>Are there more schools you can recommend ??
and do i have chance to make into those schools i've listed down ??
i know my SAt score is really low.. gotta try hard!
So please help me :(
i didn't also started on my app essays.......ughhh!
i'm so overwhelmed! </p>

<p>any advice.....criticisms are welcome!</p>

<p>ucla would be hard with those scores oos. sounds like you live in cali tho. retake the sat</p>

<p>The school that I know the most out of your list is SUNY Stony Brook. Just to give you a few heads up about that school, it is a very competitive and tough atmosphere, especially in math, engineering, and science. From what I hear, they down-curve grades and professors are not always personal. The professors can be difficult to understand too at times. Classes there are very large and can be hard to succeed in. It does have a good reputation for science and engineering because of the competitive nature of it. My friends that go there have good friends there, but are unhappy with the professors mostly.</p>

<p>Good luck with your search.</p>

<p>collegebound141 Thank you! I don’t live in cali though :frowning: i wish i have residency in cali but i don’t so it’d be tougher i guess. yah i’m definitely retaking the sat !</p>

<p>clearskies! thank you for your info! it’s very helpful. it’s quite disappointing to hear about the professors :(…i want to have friendly professors! i’ll rethink about applying there… I need more college recommendations…pls help me look for universities :(</p>

<p>If you are looking for a school with friendly and personal professors, you are better off going to a small-medium sized university or college. And if you do decide to go to a large university, try to find one with small class sizes. I don’t know many large universities with small class sizes though. Some school have huge intro classes that “weed” out students by being really tough on them, and the ones that survive the grades can move into high level courses with small class sizes. Personally, I’m against this tactic because a lot of students forget about their original passion and change majors because they couldn’t succeed in the science courses just because the university made it tough for them.</p>

<p>So it really depends on what you’re looking for in a school: large/small campus, liberal arts college, engineering based school…all those factors should be taken into consideration.</p>

<p>Thank you Clearskies. honestly, i really haven’t thought about environment and professors. actually, i’m not too much concerned about having “friendly” professor. I mean, i assume that science courses are tough in any college/university. i’ve always wanted to go to a big campus,…not too small liberal arts college because i’ve always went to small schools in my life… haha i mean i like it but i want to experience something new and bigger! challenge myself more i guesss! but im really really want dentistry ! haha…</p>
