so i have always wanted to get into a top notch college, such as penn, stanford, colombia, nyu, etc. I have worked my ass off to get into as many honors and ap classes as i could this yr and next year... but i am really worried now. my grades arent very high at the end of this year, freshman year. but one is espescially worrying... here are my grades...:

honors english 1: Final probably an A
honors algebra 2: Final B
Honors Spanish 2: Final B
Honors Bio: Final B
Honors Geometry: Final C<<<<<<<<<<<<THIS WORRIES ME
gym: A
health:A
intro to business: B
photographics: A

do these mediocre grades ruin my chances of good colleges?

No, whats done is done. Just focus on bringing them up next year and the year after that. Colleges dont just look at your grades to see if you a C, they also note things like upward trends and external factors.
You still have a shot, but its going to get tougher if you dont start bringing those grades up, and by up I mean A’s!

I know, i plan on working my ass off for the next three years. these grades arent accpetable at all: my mom is a upenn alumni, my sister is a bu alum, and my brother is currently going to upenn. so i really need to step it up.

im taking these next year:
AP bio
honors chem
honors english 2
honors pre calc
honors us history
honors spanish 3

i think i can work reallly hard and get good grades in these classes tho… but im hoping that since im only a freshman i can show a lot of growth… and then i heard that some colleges dont really consider freshman year that much…?

Your GPA isn’t top-school quality, so far. Of course, other things like test scores, raking, and ECs are considered, but to overcome your GPA would be hard for the top, top schools. Your ranking will likely be too low.

I see that many in your family went to ivies, so you feel the pressure.

To give you an idea of what you’ll need for UPenn…
(keep in mind that those who have lower GPAs/scores are likely special admits, URMs, athletes, etc).

Test Scores

Middle 50% of First-Year Students – Percent Who Submitted Scores

SAT Critical Reading: 660 - 750 89%
SAT Math: …690 - 780 89%
SAT Writing: … 670 - 760 89%
ACT Composite: … 30 - 34 36%

* 96% in top 10th of graduating class
- 77% had h.s. GPA of 3.75 and higher

Instead of having unrealistic goals (but you can still try), understand that there are many other schools where you can succeed.
