Question: There seems to be a lot of people from out of state. But statistics say that only 13% or so come from other states. It's really surprising considering how prestigious the university is. Really concerning. A lot of other state colleges that aren't ranked as high, have a greater % from out of states. Illinois is a big state obviously and that's part of the reason obviously but there must be something else. Or maybe it's not as good?

gomb, as to ur question, plenty of great public colleges have small %'s out of state, and 13% is perfectly normal... i don't think there are many public universities with much higher than 15% out of state. as for the discrepancy between ppl on thie forum and statistics, i think it might have something to do with the fact that CC is unproportionally coast oriented

I'm not sure if I know I'm in.. is decision supposed to say "admit" ?

yeah, either "admit" or "admit- college reviewed", somewhere along those lines.

One thing you might attribute the low number of out of state students to is the fact that the strength of U of I seems to be overshadowed by the likes of Umich. The difference between the admitted student stats of U of I and Umich are not that different. That is to say, many students admitted out of state to U of I are probably also admitted at schools like the University of Michigan. Not a huge price difference + umich overall being ranked higher = students turning down u of i for umich...
thats just an idea tho...
