Class of 2011 ?? Add to the list

Junior declined his appointment to USNA yesterday. That should free up another appointment for somebody on the wait list.

Junior decided to go the Navy ROTC route at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. One of the advantages of going this route is that he will be able to double major and graduate in 2011 with both a BS and an MS in Computer and Systems Engineering.

Go Navy!!!

Wow! GA, you must have one smart kid there w/ the combined BS/MS. You'll have to get him to read "The World is Flat" before he gets there (maybe you know Friedman is RPI's commencement speaker this year.)

Is RPI flexible in applying AP credits to exisiting major requirements? That could help w/ the 5 year plan.

Best of luck to Junior and just think now you'll have somebody to mow the lawn all summer.

RPI accepts AP credits and also Dual-Enrollment (community college) credits from high school. Between a combination of validation, overloading and/or summer school classes, a BS/MS can be earned in four years. There is no 5-year plan availabel for NROTC students.

Well, at least he'll be available for the month of July. However, Junior will probably continue working his Computer Technician job with the local school district during this time frame. Fat chance getting him to mow the lawn.

To the best of my knowledge, NROTC conducts "Plebe Week" at Newport during the first part of August. Then there's a one week orientation/party for Freshmen at RPI then classes start on 27 August 2007.

In anticipation of the lawn issue (regardless of whether my offspring would get sprung into the USNA ... thankfully he did ... or not and simply not "find" time to mow) I bought me a zero-turn. Works like a charm and rarely talks back. ;)

This is drummer's mom. He too declined his appointment to USNA yesterday in favor of 4 yr NROTC scholarship . Not an easy decision to say the least but one that was made after countless hours of debate.

^^^^^
USNA vs. NROTC. Either route earns the student a butter bar at the end of 4 years.

Oh no GA....

now who's gonna keep us all up-to-date with all the USNA sports??!!!!

(Best of luck to junior....!!)

^^^^^
Don't worry, I not going anywhere. My daughter will be attending NASS Session I in June. You'll be hearing from me for at least another year as we go through another admission's cycle.

^^^^ LOL!!!!

whew.........
anyway, what i really want to see is what happens when a poster hits "5,000".... and you are on pace to hit that mark in record time! ;)

seriously...
best of luck to son and NROTC....
and to your daughter with NASS........

GA, another question. Perhaps you can start a catch-all thread w/ NROTC news. That would be helpful to me. Do you know of any place online to discuss the nuances off NROTC stuff?

When my son visited the UPenn unit the CO there mentioned the possibility of doing a 5th year to accomodate grad school before commissioning. That's what I would like to know more about.

Harvard starts late. Indoc is August 18 for a week. Followed by frosh orientation week which actually takes place in Maine (for my son) and then school begins Sept 8.

He plans on working two jobs over the summer so I guess we'll have the 7 year old mow the lawn. (Just kidding!)

(End thread hijack)
