Class of 2012 from Nepal

I’m gonna be buying sheets, pillows and winter gear from there only, but it may get more expensive, what with taxes and stuff.

@DjFU

Could you please, please post a little of this and a little of that from your list…also listing the prices alongside?

Yes, please do that. It will be a big help for all of us floundering about with our shopping.

Yeah, a list would be good since I was wondering what shopping everyone is doing. All i’ve bought till now is a lot of clothes.

^^ haha, S33d. Yeah, the same with me. I never realized I had lots of clothes in my house + I bought much more.

please, post that list. It would be great help, DjFU.

rena, u have one hell of an orientation program. u’ll have loads of fun

Did I miss something? What’s special about rena’s orientation? She said she doesn’t have anything special like canoeing, kayaking, etc. :S

Well guys, the list that my college sent me is titled- " Settling In" n it says “”“”"here is a list of things you’ll need upon your arrival n they are : (Prices cited below are estimates)

Regarding Electrical Appliances: I do not recommend bringing electrical appliances from home unless it has an electrical conversion switch on it from 220V to 110V .

Regarding Clothes: Weather here during the first few weeks can really vary. Sometimes it can be extremely hot and humid and you’ll wear shorts the whole time, and sometimes it’s much cooler because of rain and you’ll wear jeans and light sweater. The evenings are almost always cool- a sweatshirt/sweater would be useful. A light rain jacket and an umbrella are good to have as well. By October to November, it’s cold, and it may snow in the wintertime ( January - March). You’ll need a winter coat, hat, gloves and snow/rain shoes (boots).

On a more formal note, it is important to have some formal wear. There will be events ( receptions, attending concerts / speeches, interviews for clubs/ student organizations , etc) all year long, and especially at the beginning of the year, when you’ll need to be formally dressed. Trousers and ties for men and skirts, dresses or nice trousers for women. We have at least one annual formal ball. If you own a long formal dress or a tuxedo, it would be a good idea to bring it. The cost of renting a tuxedo or buying a dress can range from $30-$150 here.

Finally, we recommend that you bring your national dress ! There are a number of events at the University and within the community where it would be beneficial to have you dressed in the national dress of your country.

Final reminders:
If you wear glasses, bring a second pair. It may also be a good idea to bring an ample supply of prescription medicine that you take regularly and to also bring a copy of the prescription and/or doctor notes. “”“”"

Personally, I have decided that I’ll also be taking around two large sized National Flag of Nepal. One for my Room and the other for my college’s International House. In addition, I’ll also be taking few Nepali Souvenirs such as couple of Dhaka Topis, some hand made art pieces ( a couple of Nepal made 3-foot long Khukuris would also be a good souvenir but… )

That’s from me…Add some more guys…

Some more shyt

have you people found out about things to be done here inkathmandu airport, the transits, the port of entry and the final destination? if so, why don’t you share it here. it would be really really helpful to all of us.

Why is this thread dying???

well I have 13 hours transit stop in JAPAN on my way to US… firstly, this really sucks … secondly, what the hell are we supposed to do for 13 long hours ..?? any idea guys ..
