Nothing big

Essays: Focused a lot on science and research. Wrote a pretty unique one for humor essay. Sad thing is, I did all the supplement in two days after I submitted all my apps for other colleges on the January 1 deadline. <3 Caltech for extending it to Jan 3 :D. Tip for anyone who is applying to Caltech: Write about math and science, and make it genuine + passionate.

Caltech Research Paper submitted: yes

Reccs: No idea about the teacher ones, probably average or above average. Counselor Rec should have been good though.

Hooks: No

OTHER: Asian

WHY YOU BELIEVE IT TURNED OUT THE WAY IT DID: Probably my test scores and strong academic record. My school is very competitive and difficult to get straight A's.

ACCEPTED

College Class Year: 2012

ACADEMICS
High School: Very Competition school about, 1/4 gets into berk, top ranked in math nationally

Reccs:
Humanity one : should be pretty generic. I got in in the class, but I suck at writing and English
Math: although it's only stats, but the teacher wrote the first AP test and has his own textbook. I was one of the 3 students that got A's both semester Everyone he wrote recs for got into Caltech... however the sample size is 2..... hehehe
Supp : robotics coach, knows me pretty well

Hooks: being a girl? I sent them art stuff and LED stuff.

OTHER: YOU CAN GET IN WITHOUT HIGH SCORES!!! ITS POSSIBLE! Their note on my admittance letter was "Your artistic talents are impressive"

WHY YOU BELIEVE IT TURNED OUT THE WAY IT DID: I got deferred EA, but kept contacting them (Jamila! She is really nice) I sent them more info. I went to all the info sessions they had around the area. But I am probably one of their mistakes. XP last year they accepted a girl with 1900s from our school. Keep your hopes up!

Start now on, please also leave your AMC and AIME scores (If you have taken) and whether you are a US Physics Team, USAMO, or USA Chemistry Olympiad qualifier / USA Computer Science Olympiad / USA Biology Olympaid qualifier(s) please. Thanks a lot.

117 /4 (amc 12/aime)

can anyone give reject/waitlist profiles?

I'm surprised you would say this because your stats look much better than mine when I applied. Perhaps standards are higher than when I was a frosh, but I would consider your scores quite high.

One of my friends had a 2390, 3.89, and USNCO but was wait listed. My other friend was also wait listed with a 2290 and 3.8something.

i have lots of friends with like 2200-2400 that got waitlisted
and few with 2250+ that got rejected outright!
MY total is only 2100....
VERY EXCITED ABOUT Prefrosh weekend!!

did your friends have a lot of ec's in math & science?

they took calc BC with me sophomore year ,aime qualifiers since ever and like 7 on AIME?? but i guess they got B's or something in either math or physics. maybe that is why. Yeah actually now that i think of it, those people got at least 2 B's in math and physics. They are the gamers who slack off ish.. nods

ACCEPTED/REJECTED/WAIT LISTED

Caltech Research Paper submitted: Yes. It wasn't anythin special though. Just something I wrote for the fun of it in my own time.

Reccs: Okay I guess. Didn't read them. I'm guessing overall they portrayed me as good, but not the best they've seen. I could be wrong though.

Hooks: No. I suck at life.

WHY YOU BELIEVE IT TURNED OUT THE WAY IT DID: Because I'm nothing special, but really, I'm not that upset. I'm just glad to know I still have a shot of being accepted :-D

So does anyone know when they will inform us if they take us off the waitling list? It said they would notify us by June 15th, but that's significanlty past the deadline we have to notify other schools if we will be attending. Should we notify another school that we would like a spot in their freshmean class but make sure they realize that we might back out if Caltech comes through?

Thanks.

You should definitely accept a spot elsewhere by May 1st and put down your deposit to hold your place in that class. Be sure you let Caltech know you plan to stay on the waitlist.

You don't need to tell that school you are staying on the waitlist at Caltech at this point. If you are subsequently accpeted, you'll forfeit your deposit at the other school. This happens often -- it is not a big deal to accept a school from the waitlist and drop the school where you had deposited. (My DH did it for law school long ago.)

ACCEPTED!!! (YAY!!!)

To add to #16, yes, you'll almost certainly need to deposit at another school. If they inform you, it will be sometime in May, although I don't know for certain exactly how it works. RD decisions were pushed forward pretty early this year, but that probably won't affect the waitlist dates.

There will probably be more than one wave of waitlist acceptances (?)...I got mine mid-to-late May.

Also, definitely let Caltech know how interested you are in staying on the waitlist. Updates every once in a while as new things come up. Also, you could try keeping in touch with the local admissions rep.

waitlisted w/ 2230 and 3.75(uw). probably not gonna stay on the waitlist and just choose somewhere else. hopefully ill have better luck with mit
