Class of 2012 Results: Celebrate, discuss, support here

Priority admissions at RPI is not binding. My son filled out their priority admissions form last year and it was very nice to have an admissions in the bag early. He also ended up being offered a nice scholarship from them. They may well be worth a look if you have a techie kid. They were on Newsweek's list of 25 new Ivy's last year. While it was a safety for my son, it was a safety he would have been more than happy to attend.

If you are talking about the "Candidates Choice" admissions, it appears to have changed this year to binding ED rather than non-binding EA. My S got the non-binding offer in January, and it was wonderful to have. Looks like they did away with that, unless there are other admissions plans that I don't see on their website.

How are you applying?
Early Decision I (binding) – Apply by November 1, 2007 and receive a decision by December 7, 2007.
Early Decision II (binding) – Apply by January 1, 2008 and receive a decision by February 1, 2008.
Regular Decision – Apply by January 15, 2008 and receive a decision by March 14, 2008.

Case Western still has non-binding EA, and uses the common application with very minimal supplement. No application fee if done online!

Early Action
This option is for intrepid students who wish to get a head start on the college admission process. Unlike the Early Decision option that some other schools offer, Early Action is non-binding.

Deadline to Apply November 1
Notification of Acceptance to Case By January 1

seiclan! excellent! I love it when kids know right away as to their 1st choice, and then they get in! Congrats to your D!

Twin2 was got letter Sat that he was also accepted to Franciscan U of Steubenville with $16K merit aid.

Yesterday I went online to see if my son's potential schools had received and posted transcripts, etc. and saw that one of them has accepted him already! It's University of Missouri-Columbia, direct into their Journalism program. Mizzou is one of my son's top choices! Boy do I love rolling admissions.

But, S doesn't know yet! I casually mentioned a couple of times yesterday that he ought to check on his application status at the schools - but he didn't take the hint! I don't know how long H and I can keep it to ourselves without blabbing! ;)

Fencersmother - how great that you got the merit aid information already!!! Nice :)

Yes, thanks, Oregonianmom. But the aid from Franciscan is practically an "auto" since they are already there parttime as part of their Transient Program for high school students. Actually, Twin1 is kinda/sorta interested in enrolling there if he doesn't get into Notre Dame. Twin2 is no interested, despite that merit aid. Well, "not interested" is too strong. He calls it a definite safety. He CAN go there, but would prefer service academies or Notre Dame, or Lafayette, Trinity, or just about anywhere else!

That's great about Missouri; my kids have taken their distance ed. classes many times under our homeschool program. Most of the courses were good, some even very good.

It's really hot there - and humid! ouch!

I got into Carnegie Mellon University for their Tepper School of Business and math department in Mellon College of Science. I don't know if I have to choose or can do double major. Nonetheless, I am hyped.

Just saw this thread.

It's hard to believe it's getting to be that time of year already...

Congrats to all your kids.

fencersmother- the W& J grad is the new commish of the NFL

Congrats on the early admissions! Tongshen1226 for Carnegie do you have to select those colleges ahead of time? When do they typically let you know by? Is it rolling?

congratulations to al your kids! I just found out that two of the schools (at least) on my D's short list do the online priority ap. It's exciting to think that in less than a year they could know if they were accepted somewhere and thereby eleviate application stress.

tongchen! Wow! That's great. Is CMU your first choice? I live about an hour away and the kids go there for fencing tournaments several times a year (including an upcoming one in Nov.). Have you toured the campus? Some of it is not beautiful - some of it is really fantastic.

Congratulations!

Tongchen,
Is there a special program that you applied through? I thought CMU sent out acceptances all at the same time (ED and then RD).

Congratulations Tongchen!! That's fantastic!

I got into Ohio Northern University! I will not find out about merit aid for a while, but I hope I will be invited to one of the scholarship days.

University of Pittsburgh as of last Wednesday! It wasn't really a big surprise as it was one of my safeties, but it feels so good to know that, regardless of what happens with my other applications, I'm going to college next year. Congrats to fencersmother (or rather, your kids), Tongchen, and casehopeful!

Emily, were you accepted to Main? My Twins' friend is there this fall and LOVES IT! Congrats! Go Panthers!

S got into Rose-Hulman last week. Huh?, you may ask. A Rose what? One of those great yet-to-discovered schools -- even though USNWR seems to have discovered it eons ago. Engineering school of about 1800 which has tied Harvey Mudd in USNWR stats for years as No. 1 engineering school without grad degree.

Now I deliver this to all parents with D's who are inclined to be technologically motivated: have your D apply to R-H as it truly needs more representation of the fairer sex. Please.

My daughter has been accepted at Queens University of Charlotte with merit money. She absolutely loved getting a phone call from her admissions rep. What a great small school.
