Class of 2012 SATII?

For the high school class of 2012, are you planning to take the SAT Subject Tests? I've heard that these are no longer required, but I am not clear on the situation.

I would like to hear what other 2012 students are doing.

No Longer Required!? Since when?

I guess I should add that my target colleges are UC’s.

I read about it in this article, but I’m still debating if I should study or not.
[UC Regents Adopt Changes to Freshman Eligibility](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/eligibilitychanges/)

Seeing as I’m aiming for MIT, Princeton, etc., I’ve already got four SAT subject tests down. (Four is not the norm, so do not freak out.) It would be different if I were only aiming for UCs, though, as I’m in California.

Planning for Jr Year

Math II
Chem
World History
Spanish
Physics
US History

Let me guess… World, Spanish, and Chem in November and the rest in May/June?

(For me: 770 on Bio M freshman year, and 800 on Chem, Physics, and Math 2 sophomore year. I’ll probably take US at the end of junior year since I’m taking APUSH as well.)

^ Is there a specific reason that you guessed those dates?

I have already taken USH (790)…I’m also going to take Math II, Bio M, and possibly Physics

I figure that since most people seem to take World and Chem in 10th grade, he would take the corresponding subject tests on a date close enough to 10th grade so that he wouldn’t forget as much. Spanish (with listening) is only available in November, and taking the rest on the same date would be cheaper than taking them on separate dates, so I’m guessing that those three will be taken in November.

Math 2, Physics, and US sound like a pretty standard set of tests to take at the end of junior year, since the corresponding classes are commonly taken in junior year (at least in the CC population).

(Of course, I might be completely wrong!)

I took the world SAT in June. Not sure why (not required), but all I know is that it would be easier than taking it in November.

I took the US History test this year. I’m planning on taking the Math II and Chemistry one next year, and possibly Spanish. I really should’ve just taken the Math II this year.

@ energize what prep books or textbooks did you use for chem, bio and math II?

@ energize…why did you take so many SAT IIs? Is there a correlation between number of SAT IIs taken and acceptance? Seeing as they only require 2 I would think not

@soulversity7: I used PR for Chem and Bio; use Barron’s if you really need that 800, but my honors chemistry class was sufficient (except we didn’t do orgo…). I didn’t use anything for Math 2, since I did well on the official practice test and decided I didn’t need to prep for it. I hear that Barron’s does a good job for Math 2, though.

@YellowDaisies: I plan to submit Math 2 and Physics (since I self-studied precalc and physics). I decided to take Chem because I did well on practice tests and since it only took an extra hour or two to prep for the test; this will likely be the case for US as well. After all, another 800 can’t hurt! (Besides, I wasn’t entirely satisfied with my Bio score, being a CCer. And a 2400 on subject tests looks nice. :D)

@ energize: would you suggest using the barron’s for ap bio and ap chem test?

I took US History this year (790), and plan on taking Math II and Chemistry next year.

@soulverity7: Err, just use the books suggested for the AP exam (Cliffs for Bio, PR for Chem)? I haven’t taken either class yet so I’m not exactly qualified to answer that.

I think I’m going to end up taking Math II, Chemistry, and Spanish (without listening). Math and spanish because they are easiest for me. Chemistry because I’m taking AP so why not?

@puggly123 haha really weird question but are you a guy or a girl?

Have to retake World SAT II in December (not offered in Nov.), because I got a dreadful score that can’t be mentioned here. Taking US, Bio, Math II (maybe) in June.

So how many subjects should I take regardless of my UC goals? How many do most colleges require?
