Class of 2012: What summer programs are you applying to?

I'm applying to
- HSHSP
- TASP
- NIH
- Harvard SSP as a back-up

MITES
LEAD
YESS- maybe
SAMS- maybe

Carnegie Mellon SAMS and AP-EA
Caltech YESS
Air Force Summer Seminar

MITES
RSI
SAMS
ASSIP in my area…

I can’t afford the other ones… even with scholarships.

Damn. Man, i’m just chilling during the summer. Have fun with whatever you’re doing.

none im doing research with my mentor at his lab

why would i tell you then my chances of getting it would decrease and the prestige would be lowered !!!

-TASP
-Bank of America Student Leaders
-Clark Scholars
-Notre Dame’s Global Issues Seminar
-If nominated, Boy’s State
-Harvey Mudd’s FAST Program (technically, it’s in February 2011, so I guess it really isn’t a summer program)

How prestigious is TASP on college apps? Comparable to RSI?

Probably RSI and TASP (I have diverse interests)

PAVE @ Vanderbilt
my state’s Governor’s school
…yea that’s about it.

Well, TASP only accepts 64 people. IDK about RSI though. Does RSI/MITES require prior research experience?

RSI expects research potential.

Future leaders in math and science related fields.
Best of the best for RSI, which means it’s de facto required.

MITES… not necessary.

Well, those who attend TASP tend to end up at top-tier universities. But it’s more correlation than causation, from what I can tell. If you’re accepted into the program, you’re probably already amazing enough to be accepted into top-tier universities in the first place.

RSI doesn’t require prior research experience, but it is certainly helpful for getting admitted to the program, since the whole thing is one big research project. I just know this because my friend went there but didn’t have prior research experience beforehand.

Probably boys’ state, Yale and/or Princeton football camp and maybe the northwestern, Uchicago and/or Michigan State camp.

RSI
SSP
UIowa SSTP
UF SSTP
Mathcamp
(possibly) Rutgers YSP (it’s for discrete math)
AMSP if I can’t get into any of the above (I went this year, so I’m automatically admitted)

What are some of these abreviations?
like SSTP? or AMSP? or YESS, SAMS,ASSIP? and is mites for asians?

Google is your friend.

(Err, the AMSP I’m referring to is AwesomeMath Summer Program.

I’m pretty sure MITES is for everyone, though it’s focused on underrepresented minorities (i.e. not a lot of Asians).

Bank of America Student Leaders
Congressional Page Program(still pending)
Notre Dame Seminar for African Americans
Girls State
TASP(maybe…)
