My name is on the Semi-Finalist list, but I haven’t gotten an email. Anyone else?

I have received a letter, and my name is on the semi-finalist list. However, I never received the email so I am completely unaware of the essay topics or what I need to do! Can somebody help?

Semi here. If you PM me your e-mail address, I can forward the documents to you!

yeah what exactly is a top ten list? And why specifically #4?

Or do they want us to elaborate on ten of our activities we listed on question #4 (volunteer activities?)

when i first read the question about the top 10 list, i assumed it the way @icyhot1122 did. then again, i don’t think anyone fully understands it.

i think the top 10 list question really vague on purpose, so we can probably make the list about anything we want(: is anyone else having problems with the word doc formatting? the rec2 form is two pages when i open it instead of 1 because at the bottom it says “Page 2 of 1”. the signature line is the only thing that falls onto the second page… ahh idk what to do! i don’t want them to think i forged it!!

My daughter did not get the email before the letter notifying her. She recevied the letter on Dec. 24. We spent the entire Christmas break trying to reach the company. Finally, on Jan. 3 we reached them and got the email. Luckily, the counselor and people writing letters of rec have been very helpful. She has the same question about the essay…top ten what??? She has been asking around and everyone has a different opinion. I think they are giving you room to interpret it yourselves. Good luck, this is pretty exciting!

I believe that the top ten list and then elaborating on #4 is deliberately open-ended. The selection of a top ten list will probably result in a variety of responses, which I am sure that the selection committee will use to develop diversity in their pool of finalists. I would use this essay as an opportunity to design your top ten in such a way to reflect your strengths and abilities when elaborating on #4.

So for volunteer work in part A, it says list all for the 2012 year only, then for part B, it states to not add any from the 2012 year, but from 2009-2011…but the volunteer work in 2012 is what I have been doing since 9th grade, most at least. So what do I do? What do I put in part B?

Also…what does the top ten list essay mean? Does someone want to reword that/ give me an example?

Congratulations to all of the 2013 semifinalists! Welcome to the family. I was a Coca-Cola Scholar back in 2002 from Mississippi. It’s a very tough process, even more now than I went through the program. The CCSF really does promote a well-rounded student with a strong focus on leadership and service (not always about grades, test scores, etc.). Don’t get me wrong, there were National Merits, Valedictorians and students with 36 ACTs in my group, but they had to have done something that made them stand out from the other thousands of applicants. Some were well-off, others came from poverty.

I read some of your stats and many of you sound like amazing students who will do just fine without this. Good luck to all the semifinalists and to all the other applicants as you continue to pursue other college and scholarship applications.

Is there a way to check the app we sent back in november or october? the preliminary app

Has anyone figured out what the top ten list means? I’m really confused and I have no clue what I am supposed to write… What is the topic supposed to be? Are we supposed to make that up? (I don’t understand what this top-ten list is even referring to. Top ten what? Hobbies? Books? etc.) When it says to elaborate on #4, does that mean the fourth item on the list or the fourth section of the application, which is volunteer activity information?

We have the same questions about accessing the original application. I guess I didn’t print it out figuring I could always access on-line and now I can’t get to it. Anyone know if it is possible to access the original application from October?

Hey everyone, this is what Mark Davis, the president of the Scholars Foundation, said when current Scholars asked about the question: “for the essay question we asked semi finalists to list their Top Ten (could be colors, books, teachers, movies, places, etc - really anything). Then we want them to elaborate on #4 on the list. This will allow them to share more about themselves for the readers and demonstrate their creativity.”

Yup, the scholarship team told me to basically make a top ten list of anything and then elaborate on #4. On the list. I am complete. The waiting starts now

Can we add a resume to our application?

^^good question

I asked, and the Foundation DOES NOT want anything extra in the application. Kind off odd, because I feel that some of the information I sent needed substantiation.

Okay thanks :)
