***Coca-Cola Scholars 2016-2017***

Official thread of for seniors applying for the 2016-2017 Coca-Cola scholarship

Let me know if you have questions. 2015 Coke Scholar.

Do you submit test scores for any round ?

I think they were on the initial application but I can’t quite remember.

When does the scholarship open?

August 2016

How competitive is it to become a regional semifinalist? What’s the average community service hours for a regional semifinalist?

I don’t believe there are stats on that. It’s not about how many hours as much as how good your application is as a whole. I’m guessing it is decently competitive to be a regional semifinalist.

Someone let me know when the application opens up. I’ve checked the other day and there was nothing. Maybe I’m missing something. haha

Is the first round done by a computer? It seems set up to be that way

@CourtneyThurston There’s no place to enter SAT/ACT Test scores for the first round. Did they have it last year?

I applied two years ago now. I can’t remember. I would say most Coke scholars happen to have high SAT scores even if they are not asked in the application.

@CourtneyThurston How many community service hours do Coca Cola Scholars usually have?

The average in my year was over 1200 per scholar, and just in high school.

@CourtneyThurston Is the $20,000 scholarship renewable or is it a one-time award? Also, if I have 850 service hours, a 34 ACT, and a 3.98/5.05, do I have a reasonable chance or do you personally think I’d be wasting my time filling out the application? Thanks

It is $5000 a year for 4 years.

Your stats sound fine although the GPA may be a problem. Apply and see. It doesn’t take very long.

“the GPA might be a problem…” WHAT?

The child has a hair under a 4.00 reflecting nearly perfect grades.

Doesn’t Coke take into account rigor? Do you have to grind out As, and only As, and pick a high school that grades on a 4.5 scale (unweighted) to get this?

OP said it was 3.98/5.05 and she didn’t specify that it was a 3.98/4 unweighted.

“OP said it was 3.98/5.05 and she didn’t specify that it was a 3.98/4 unweighted.”

This. If it’s 3.98/4 unweighted then obviously the GPA is fine.

I’m quite worried (for this scholarship and others) because my school doesn’t do “service hours.” Don’t want to go into specifics due to privacy, but I go to a religious school so service is an inherent aspect of a lot of our activities, but we don’t count hours. What should I do in regards to filling out the service page/hours? @CourtneyThurston
