Class of 2013 from Nepal

will anybody tell me.......if anyone knows...........where do i search college according to major.........my major is Forensic science.........its gettin weird for me to get a college with this major

gud luck everyone with your SAT I and SAT IIs, i have already done both........just waiting to get a college to apply

i have already taken AP last year.........got good scores too

^^^^10 chars.

DO colleges waive the TOFEL requirement if we have got good SAT scores???
few of my frens dint give the TOFEL and went to top notch colls still

@neo-nietzsche,
It's TOEFL, not TOFEL.............I m not sure that all the colleges will waive TOEFL...Infact TOEFL is necessary although it has no impact on Admission criteria.............
I hope everyone got that ...........I didn't know how to put it..

^not sure about that.............Any help from seniors would be heartily appreciated...

post #196.......Sorry about that.....Actually It meant to be September TOEFL not November TOEFL

@cui bono: thnx for the info...yea I heard the same...it is not an admission criterion yet an integral part of it....but if one has got stellar SAT score, then a request for TOEFL(this time got it right, I actually never noticed how it is spelled!!) waiver might do the work for some collz, esp for ED...
further info from seniors would be welcomed

Yes SOME top-notch colleges do waive ur TOEFL if u score high enough on ur SAT..............For instance Amherst waives ur TOEFL score if u score above 700 in ur Critical Reading section.......and this is only one of many examples.

But NOT ALL colleges waive ur TOEFL even though,in most of the cases, its nothing more than a formality.(i.e. In my opinion)

Also,compared to SAT, TOEFL hardly requires any practice and is used for nothing more than to fill up the numbers.So, there is no harm in taking the exam.

^the matter only comes to money.........$165 is not a joke..................

Hey guys,
What does that RED STAR by the side of our thread mean???The star is only at the side of Class Of 2013 from Nepal

The red star means that you have posted in that thread.
Mouse-over it and you'll see how many posts you have there.

Yes, $165 is certainly no joke.........but those $165 spent will be money well spent.coz not all colleges waive ur TOEFL requirement...........also the colleges tht do waive the TOEFL scores usually require u to score fairly high on the CR section and no matter how good u r u can always have a bad day............Lets say a college asks u to score 700 in CR in order for them to waive ur TOEFL. Now u gave ur SAT in October and did quite well and scored a perfect score in both Math and the writing section but missed the 700 mark in CR section by just 10.Now, U did not register for the TOEFL earlier and u don't have a TOEFL score.The college won't waive ur TOEFL either and so now u r left behind with very few colleges to apply to.What will u do now?
So, I'd say its better to just take the TOEFL beforehand to avoid this possible predicament.
However if u r absolutely certain tht u will match up to those standards and r willing to take the risk then u could go ahead and decide not to take the test but as for me tht's a risk i for one am certainly not willing to take..................

I agree wid ivy30.
Plus almost all college except the top US colleges ask for TOEFL if you are not a native English speaker so i guess for most of the safety colleges TOEFL is a compulsion even if u've got good SAT scores...top schools require SATs and as far as I've seen medium type school ask for TOEFL regardless of ur SATs...some colleges dont even ask for SATs just TOEFL.....

How is everyone's SAT prep going on?The oct. date is getting closer.There isn't much time left at all.
So have u all finished your preparations yet?

^ for me the 3500 basic word list is definitely out of question.I just learned the high frequency words from tht list and am now learning the words frm any other list(i.e. no. of words<<<3500) tht I can get my hands on.

^^^.....cui bono n ivy30 u dont need to cram all the 3500 words yaar...that's too much....vocab maybe a plus point bt u can still do gud if u dont know all the 3500 words...ya its better if u jus go for the high frequency words....try the wordlist in sparksnotes,com its concise and easier(well that's waht i think)...if u can work according to the tactics for CR in princetonreview or kaplan da words might nt b a problem!!

^ u could also try the rocketreview wordlist

@cicatrix..............Will U be giving SAT again??

@everyone,
How many of you have SAT reasonin test on Oct 4??
