I do not agree that those colleges have become competitive. Those colleges re ject students because they knowthat they're their safeties. So if u r strong opt for big colleges.

@dallo306: Bowdoin is generous with aid. A few years back a student with a very good SAT score(>1530)and an okay GPA got in with a full ride and a stipend.
Go McCain!

@ivy30
bowdoin doesnot require SAT scores...
GPA however is crucial.. needs to be stellar
there was a nepali in bowdoin class of 08'... he was the first one i guess.. and out of 600 int'l applicants 5 got in last year... full ride...

GOBAMA!!

@ppl desperate for safeties
yr safeties depends on yr stats... a college myt be safety for someone and a reach for the other... and there is no such thing as a guaranteed placement... if you just want to go to a US college there are plenty of colleges with rolling deadline.. my advice... apply early... some of them do have good aid...
go through the commonapp grid for some good colleges(not safeties) with rolling deadline

Bowdoin might not require SAT scores but the one I am referring to did submit his SAT scores and had an OKAY GPA. He wasn't an A-level student either.

@ivy
ehhh!! are we talking about the same guy, from the batch of 2008?
if so do you know of any way to contact him/her?

I have got really low score in CR so even if i apply for ED i will have to apply in the college which doesnt require SAT. So what shall i do? should i apply for ED or should i wait?(i have already registered for SAT again but that will be too late for ED).

@everyone
Bowdoin and Bates are truly outstanding colleges......though these have SAT optional policy,we wouldn't benefit unless we have outstanding GPA,best extra activities and powerful concentration in one but any area.
And what i have heard is."as for me i used to search those colleges where i used to lie between their SAT scores range.Recently when i knew about this, even admission officers have informed that the range is for students based on American or Canadian educational system."At once i thought its nonsense but at other times i got plenty of students who had enrolled into very top notch university with SAT scores of 1800 to 2000 and one thing the reminder is those who got excellent scores of above 1400(composite) may even not get admission to that colleges where 1300 could get.I have evidence of that too.
@ anoop
If u think of that way, just do not hurry for ED1.Instead work hard for ED2 and work for ur personal essay.
@gokuleshwor
WLU...............u mean Wesleyan University or................

Can we go for ED2 now if we have already send our Ed1 packet?Is it permissible though the decision of ED1 hasn't come yet?
For those looking for safeties and financial aid from safeties,u can refer to College of Atlantic,Maine.I did not place this college in my list coz it offers only one degree in Ecology or sth like that.

@tau
college of atlantic... is very deceitful...
it offers aid only to the UWC grads.. go through the website properly... its written there... small txt.. very hard to find
and yes u may not proceed with the ed2 unless yr ed1 decision is out.. however its better to get everything ready n then wait for the decision
@anoop
m totally with mit,
if u dont want to waste yr ed1 though and if yr good in everything else u cud apply to colleges tht doesnt require SATs

Isn't ED2 binding???

I am not sure but most ED2 programs have late reply dates as well....if we go for ED2 n get rejected wil we have ample time to proceed with the regulars??or do we keep sending the docs for ED2 nd RD at the same time and cancel the regulars if accepted???

Can anyone tell if F&M wud be good for engineering??

@Stanford ED-ers...
have you received any kind of notification of the receipt of the application????
m starting to get worried....these ppl never repply the emails too....

@cicatrix,
As far as I know, Stanford doesn't really send any notification for that matter. but, if some of yr documents r missing, the admissions office will contact u within some days. (Thats wht a senior told me)

@everyone,
Anyone up for Reed College?

Yes you can. If you get admitted to the college you have applied ED1, all you'll have to do is withdraw your ed2 application before its decision comes out.

@wheatstone......
Ya, there is one boy with SAT scores 2120 (700-CR and 750-Maths) and 5A's from BNKS for Reed College-as far as i know, he applied ED1 there and i hope he wud certainly get it

@cicatrix.....
F & M is a liberal arts college.Unlike other LACs this university doesn't provide 3-2 engineering program ......but u can go for physics then easily u can get into engineering if u can maintain ur GPA as their website descibed.

@dallo306
do u have safety colleges with full financial aid ?if u have ,please list them all.

@mitscholar
can u tell me more about economics in F & M...........i am planning for my ED2 there ..just planning

@tau
safeties with full aid!!... i'd really want some of those... sadly ... haven't really started with my safeties yet
take a look at this... myt b of some help...(if u dont already have it)
Schools Awarding International Financial Aid

@bocca..
dai commonapp k garney? it doesnt let us choose an ed2 saying 'you already have an ed' n all.....
to add to tht our GC restricts us
he wants us to wait till our ed1 decisions are out
wat do u suggest?

anybody thinking of cornell college????

^^^but i had heard that they are too stingy....
