Class of 2013

err ... you don't have to translate your grades, that's the job of the adcoms. Send in your grades as they are, the adcoms will understand what they have to.

not translating exactly... just trying to plug them in....
also cause my school is REALLY good, my school based grades dont look that good, but they are kinda (not to sound like up myself) that and my actual grades dont come out until december.... and two of my applications are due nov 30/dec 1

Unless you are the first applicant from your school to that particular college, they should be familiar with your system and will know how to gauge your standards. I don't know how they do it in Australia, but in my country, because the A-level results only come out in March, the teachers provide predicted scores.

I know I'm not the first applicant from my school... or my country - there is a girl who graduated like 3 years ago or two years ago... 2006 that is a sophmore there this year, but I didn't know her so I cant speak to her.
my school is just really retarded... like I get a 14/15 on an essay for an assesment task and come like 25th highly retarded, but on the other hand, we are always in the top 5 schools in the state...

I didn't know that this thread existed, haha. so hi everyone!

I'm not as smart as you guys here and 90% of you here are going to HYPS and I'm ED-ing NYU!

beeish: that sucks! my school is kind of like that too: screws you up, and they don't give a damn about it because they don't want you to leave school after 12th grade. students leaving after 12th grade = no students to pay fees = no money.

p/s: Good luck everyone! :)

hey xfiona!
my school is actually public... so we dont pay fees... but i dunno I ran into sooo many problems with them over applications... its like they dont WANT to send us to good universties... man I dont even want to get into it, i cried soo many tears... i just remember one thing I found out the DAY i got a med interview for a sydney school, it was like YEAH med interview, then like oh crap tears....

DUDE i'm not applying to HYPS at all! closest i'm getting is brown and columbia - only cause they have the best financial aid.... I went to a harvard like high school - or what I imagine to be harvard like - and I really dont want to spend the next four years like that too.
Are you only applying to NYU?

Nice to know there're so many peeps with the same general idea as me. I'm an MIT/Stanford aspirant, as well, from South Africa.

My school report is good (I'm 10th in my grade), but we don't use the same grading scale as schools in the USA. UCBerkeley claim they're familiar with all rating scales, so I just hope that's the case so as to avoid confusion. Got 2010 on my first SATs, but I'm retaking, so hopefully, I'll make it up :)

man I just found out i'm coming 49/160 in my year... but my year is in the top 1% of the state... so it looks bad but it isn't actually....

^ at least your school ranks.

Mine doesn't, neither gives out percentiles. it might be better though, if the ranking only considered GPA and not rigor of schedule, because I'm taking a lot of classes but my grades aren't the best(good anyway.). But I did find out that my school was ranked 9th of 53 higher secondary schools in my state last year. And I always thought my school was really crappy academically.

well your weighted GPA should take in regards the rigor of your schedule

^ my school doesn't rank at all. but if they would they'd probably only provide some unweighted rank, my school is so obsessed with numbers, no matter what the context is.

well if I did it the way where you just divide your mark out of 100 by 25 I get like 3.88ish... which is WAAAY better then 3.5 haha

beeish - I'm also applying to Fordham, Boston, USC, Loyola Marymount and Syracuse. Hey, at least you're still ivy league-ing! Haha, I'd love to apply to Columbia if my SAT scores weren't so crappy.

My school is so crazy that the first and second place students could have a .55 difference in their averages. And we have it ridiculously low; almost no one gets 85+.

woot USC! Trojan pride!

I am done!!! With all my apps finally. Now I only have the SAT January to come but then all I can do is wait. How are you guys doing?

[I hope this thread is not entirely dead by now].

lol same thing...have do be over with SAT in january/ still not done with MIT app tho.

I did all my apps! It was something! I have had enough applications for one lifetime.

yeah! I finished a couple days ago... felt so good to finally send everything off! was waiting till I got my HSC results to send Brown and Columbia off, but they are gonskies... now I wish I could relax, but I'm ridiculouly nervous for April lol the thing that sucks is that I think I'm going to be overseas at the time :(

Hi.. I finished reading through the entire thread just now(yep! I'm jobless n its a Sunday morning :D ) looks like all of you here are ivy-leaguer's :P happy to see that i'm the only slacker here :D

yay finished the apps... what a way to spend the first few days of 2009!!! Guess it's going to be a great year ..lol...
