anyone here from sxc?

^^it depends on the college… but it’ll be much better if u send them all…our course load is yearly so it’ll be the same cumulative gpa in all… not much of a difference…

how do we get to evaluate GPA???it would really be helpful!!!

^ I would like to know the answer to that question too.

From class of 2013 here!

I saw Spiny Babbler being mentioned somewhere around this forum. I have volunteered there for about a year and seems there’s a little mis-information here. Spiny Babbler doesn’t require you to work all week-long. Most of the volunteers work only on Saturdays (9 am to 1 pm, sometimes a little longer) and if you have the time you can work Sundays too. They do have summer and spring camps which need to to work all week long but participation in those is voluntary. And its also not for artistic types only. There are singing sessions, movies and several day trips (hiking, hospitals, cultural heritages, rivers and one time this ramshackle settlement area for homeless people). Did i mention fishing? They also had one session with children from orphanage. The children there are from Switzerland and India and Afghanistan and Ireland too. And you’re not there to motivate the kids. You probably can’t. Just make sure they don’t dump their crayons in the pond or take home a stray dog! Its an awesome place! I even used it for my essay on an extra curricular activity in the common app.

Umm… I dunno if all that is relevant anymore. It was discussed quite a few pages ago. Just being loyal to a great place!

And, to find out your GPA consult your Guidance Counselor. Different schools have different systems.

and what if the school doesn’t have a Guidance Counselor??

Just thought I’d stop by from India :p.
Any Brown applicants?

Yes, one of my friends is applying there.

Pushpa, actually, even in our college we dont have a GC. It is just that our English Teacher writes it on the behalf of GC post. Similaerly, many students write their own recommendations and get it verified by the teachers, if the teachers are not articulate enough in English. so it doesnot really matter, whom you ask to write. But be sure, U wanna get an impressive recommendation.

ccprofile and pushpa, different colleges have different ways of determining their GPA. Best would be to ask your college authorities. In my college, they consider the grades of best threee subjects, if its AAA its 4.0 if its AAB its 3.75 and so on. Also, % wise they use certain threshols out of which they either first convert it into grades and evaluate GPA or calculate it directly. you may wannna google your question as well.

for +2 n Isc it goes like:

some say that isc is tougher and they add 10% to their actual% to compare with +2s… i read the same evaluation method somewhere, prolly in Class 2012 thread but was unsatisfied

and one more thing, i saw this in my SAT admission ticket- “ONLY A VALID PASSPORT WILL BE ACCEPTABLE ID”…what does this mean???do i need a real passport or some Valid IDs will work???

anybody doing SAT1 this october??? need some advice…what’s the best way to prepare??

if we get into a college in ED, then what will be the financial aid strategies???

It is easier to bargain for aid in ED isn’t it?? Well I’ve already started the vocabs and the writing sections …just not sure is mugging up words the right way

mine will probably be Amherst (if i get straight A’s ) otherwise i’m still searching

@alevel: Yeah I’ve already registered for both the oct. and nov. SATs.
BTW are you all already done with the common app essays?

IMO vocab from Barrons is an overkill. You really don’t need to know all of those 3500 words. Go for something more shorter and manageable. I tried Direct hits and it was helpful.
In my case I’ll be going through the 1000 words in sparknotes. For Math just do the practice tests and don’t forget to recheck you answers in the end. For writing, practice, practice and more practice.
