***Class of 2014 NMSF Qualifying scores***

Just spoke with NMSC. Very nice and helpful. Confirmed:

 1. Lowest qualifying score for TX is 219
 2. Confirming SAT score is still considered 1960, figured as listed by Soonermom95 in post 1240.

DS made it! He switched schools at the start of this year, and the school change is still being processed. His new school should have the info in a week or so.

Congrats to your son, divensnorkel (as well as all the other NMSFs). Being a NMF was huge for my son in terms of scholarships and opportunities at OU.

Congrats to all to made the cutoff. We were pretty sure my son made the cut with a 223 in Wisconsin and were surprised to see his name in the paper today! Very exciting stuff! I am a proud mama duck to be sure.

Ok. Writing from Kentucky. No word today on NMSF so called the HS. Front office didn’t know what I was talking about and counseling office thought that something was mailed home to students from NM. I guess they weren’t going to tell them😒

Do I wait for the school to tell him?? Aargh.

Mrspepper…I had the same dilemma last year. I opted to wait and let the school tell him. I’m so glad I did. The excitement in his voice when he called me from the counselor’s office told me I did the right thing. ;-)

That’s what I was thinking. I just don’t want him to lose time on the apps. If they are distracted in office, I can see them not thinking about it. There will be a huge delay in publishing it if I recall. If you call the NM office, you will still need to get the letter to start the app, right?

You can go with I heard the cutoff was 2xx. What is your score again?

It appears that there are only two up so far (Ohio and Oregon, as shown in links in earlier posts), but a good way to get a whole list for a state is to Google the words in the title of the document that NMSC sends to the press each year with the entire list for a particular state. For this year, try a Google search with the terms “Semifinalists: 2014 National” and “Merit Scholarship Program” or, rather than continuing to check periodically, add a Google Alert for yourself with those search terms and your state’s name. As of this minute, that search (without any state name) only gives you five results, with the entire Ohio and Oregon lists at the top of that five-item search result list. More of these will show up for 2014 by the end of the month. You can find the 2013 lists for many states if you change 2014 to 2013 in that search string (so that it’s “Semifinalists: 2013 National” and “Merit Scholarship Program”). Here are some examples for the 2013 NMSF lists using that Google search:

Doesn’t this make you wonder how many kids nationwide miss the whole process? It is a pity that schools are not on top of this. NM was what brought me to CC in the first place. Congrats to all!

Called NMSC. Couldn’t wait any more. They confirmed that the cutoff in Florida is 214. I didn’t ask for confirmation specifically about my son’s name being on the list but with a 216 I think I can relax now. I am assuming that his school is waiting until Friday when we are holding the awards ceremony for last year to announce. I just wish I could see his name in print.

This website posted the cutoff scores late last night (to observe the embargo date)… It looks like they may have gotten some of the info from us as they have the boarding school regions for the first time :)

[National Merit Scholarships](http://www.collegeplanningsimplified.com/NationalMerit.html)

Called NMSC and S is in for sure. Hope the school figures that out soon so he can get his login for NMF.

Mrspepper…yes, you need the letter from the school because it has the password to access the NM site. We found the application process to be ridiculously simple. My son and I sat down and did it all in an afternoon after school. Even the essay is not that big of a deal. 500 words if I recall correctly.

NM confirmed Hawaii cutoff 215 :frowning:

COMMENDED LETTERS will be sent to schools on 9/17/13.

207 in region 2 made NASF

Updated with region 2 NASF

See the stickied FAQ thread in this forum for links to lists of previous scores.
After the press-release date September 11th, qualifying scores will be available by phone from the NMSC. Here is the number to call–the receptionist will give you one “qualifying score” when asked.

Mid-Atlantic (?)
DE, DC, MD, NJ, NY, PA, VA region =224

Leaving three without a definite home:
IL, HI, KY (HI has one boarding school, KY two, IL two)
I am inclined to think, in spite of the news releases, that KY belongs to the Southeast or Midwest region, HI to the West, and IL to the Midwest.
Of course there is no guarantee that in the future these regions won’t be re-grouped without notice by the NMSC.
