Class of 2014 Orientation Packets

Orientation Packets have been sent.
It can be an overwhelming experience , if any parents have any questions about orientation or move in , please ask.

In past years, what has been the schedule for parents on the Orientation Day after move-in day? I really need to head out as early as possible on the 19th, but don’t want to miss any important information.

Thanks

Do not miss the opening Mass. It is a moving ceremony.
Last year Father Peter gave an inspirational sermon. For me it was the highlight of the Parents portion of Orientation. Your family will be filled with pride and joy.
After the mass there is a picnic , then you say good bye.

If you head out early you will not miss any important information , but you will miss out on the begining of your childs Villanova experience.
I highly recommend the Mass.

Thanks. I know my son would appreciate it if we participated in the Mass with him. Maybe skip the picnic, then…got to make a 3+ hour drive home and then take our older son to the airport so that he can get back to college as well.

FYI–The Mass was the day after move-in day. Also we stayed in Scantion Conference center via priceline-- it was not great but cheap.

I would check the Radnor Hotel , on Lancaster Ave , closest hotel to campus.

We’re booked at the Best Western in King of Prussia on the 18th. Hope it’s adequate for one night. And it’s near shopping for all those dorm supplies. Now deciding on a hotel for Parents Weekend.

King of Prussia is about 15 minute drive to campus.
For dorm shopping , Bed Bath and Beyond and groceries Genuardi’s are in the same shopping plaza on Lancaster in Radnor (west of campus).

For crying out loud, let you kids grow up! I found the entire orientation to be boring and uninformative. What do you need to find out as a parent? The students have computers and phones, you can stay in contact. I found there were many parents who did not even attend, so there were plenty of new students without parents. If you can’t attend part of it, they won’t be left out and may actually make new friends sooner. Some people treat it like they are sending their kids off to never see them again. It reminded me of being in camp. The whole orientation was kind of silly. Sorry if I’m letting any parents down who were looking forward to sending their loved ones off. If you are not from the area, I’d recommend taking your kids out to eat somewhere off campus at a nice restaurant. Go to Philly and visit the art museum. Do something fun while you are in the area.
