Class of 2014: Waitlisted

Yep, you are right, I searched past posts and last year MIT sent email notifications around May 15th. I guess we will have to wait more 3 weeks :(

After visiting JHU I realized that I really liked it there…enough for me to consider for a while to not even stay on the MIT waitlist. I’m still going to stay on, and if I get off, it’ll be a tough decision that will most likely come down to money and how I feel about MIT (I’d have to revisit and get some more info).

Hey, where do we send like a letter if we want them to take that into consideration? (like the address) or will email suffice?

@listzt at this point, I would send them an email.

Yay! An email saying the waitlist will be figured out over the next two weeks!

Good News! My Daughter got an email from MIT admissions saying that they will take people off the waitlist this year! MIT sent this email to all on the waitlist, so check your email! Good luck to all!

Christiansoldier - I thought you were attending princeton? lol

Anyway at this point I actually doubt I may stay on the waitlist. I’ve fallen in love with Williams to be honest.

good luck to all of you!!!

hope to see you guys on campus this fall!!!

I signed up with Princeton, but I’m remaining on the MIT waitlist. You never know.

Also, do you think the fact that I already am signed up with a good university will put me at a disadvantage on the waitlist?

@christiansoldier my question to you is:

Is MIT your first choice? If you get off the waitlist are you going to decline your spot at Princeton and accept the spot at MIT? At this point I would recommend only staying on the MIT waitlist if MIT is indeed your first choice. If you don’t know the answer now, which is totally understandable, you should do a soul searching and figure it out really quickly. There are other students on the waitlist who MIT is totally their first choice.

I honestly don’t know what I would do if I got in. I imagine it’s just like anything else: it’s a different feeling once its actually yours. I still love MIT and think it is an awesome school, so I’d hate to cut myself off if they’re willing to give me a chance.

yeah, it’s gonna be a huge dilemma. but look at it this way, if you end up choosing Princeton but got in from the waitlist, that’ll be at the expense of someone who is dying to go to MIT.

Someone like me!!! I would only be going to Berkeley if I don’t get off the waitlist. I mean, Cal is great and all, but there are just so many subpar people who get accepted there.
Christiansoldier, you already have Princeton!!! D: Meanwhile, I’d pick MIT in a heartbeat

It’s not really at the expense of anyone – if they don’t get the number of freshmen they’re looking for from the waitlist the first time (if people get in but decide to stick with the choices they’ve made already), MIT will go back to the waitlist until the number of spots they want filled are filled.

@molliebatmit Hey, do you know when they will be contacting people on the waitlist? Are they going to call, email or smail? Thank you!

Does anyone know when we can expect to hear more info for MIT. The suspense is killing me!!! I really want to get into MIT, it is my first choice. I graduate next Saturday and hoped I would know by then.

I believe they typically email.

I jut gave up my spot after a ton of debating… It seems that Admissions is working hard on wait-lists because they emailed me back as soon as I emailed them… at 12AM

I know this has been brought up in other threads, but it seems more people frequent this one. So does anybody know if it is actually true that MIT is increasing their freshman class size to 1300? Because this could mean a lot - and I stress A LOT - for us hopefuls.

^Me too but I thought it was for a later incoming class. aah! ):
