Class of 2014

Anyone know for sure if they're going to commit to Harvard?

The only Ivy Leagues I applied to were HYP, but I got rejected from Yale and Princeton, so Harvard, here I come!

I got into Yale and Brown, WL at Princeton, but Harvard was my first choice, so I’m pretty sure that I’m going to commit to Harvard

Cahier, I’m in the exact same boat. Rejected at Yale and Princeton, but I got into Harvard! So, yeah, I’m gonna go there.

I got accepted at Harvard, Yale, Stanford and Columbia.

I think I’ll most likely end up at Harvard, but still deciding :)

Are you guys planning on going to the admitted students weekend? It’s the same weekend as my senior prom, so I’m still debating…

Dude. Go to the weekend. I think it’ll definitely be more valuable to gain some early insight about Harvard’s programs and student life than it would to be hammered drunk at afterprom. (I’m assuming your prom’s on the Friday before?)

I’d go for the prom. Nothing can replace the awesomeness of some good party :)

Is Harvard’s accepted student weekend fun? I was looking at the schedule and it seemed very… dry. Sometimes even a bit fodgy* (eg: Pre-frosh Jam).
Honestly, I’m going to be in Boston for MIT’s CPW, so I don’t think it’s really worth it to fly to go again two weeks later. I could meet a Harvard student whom I know for lunch and discuss it with her. I’d save my parents money by doing that, and miss less school. Would the weekend be that much more fun and/or useful in making a decision than just talking to a friend?

Also, Harvard’s not really at the top of my list, so my mother thinks I need to have a full weekend there so that I won’t be biased toward MIT. I dunno about that. HmmMMMmmm

lol. prefrosh weekend is what you make of it. it’s okay. mit’s cpw is better, hands down. but both do not accurately reflect college life. harvard is amazing, not quite like the prefrosh weekend…but it’s fun, nonetheless ^^

“Pre-frosh Jam”

Fodgy? All the a cappella concerts are called jams. It’s just campus slang…every campus has it.

I’m blessed to be deciding between HYP. I’m going to Bulldog Days, but I probably have to decide between Princeton and Harvard Preview. (Most likely Harvard since its only one missed day of school. I don’t think my school would appreciate me missing a week of classes ;)).

BTW Millancad, where did you find the schedule?

Don’t be a dick; go to prom.

I went last year. It’s what you make of it. If you have no reason not to go (forget about missing school; you shouldn’t care about high school anymore), then I would go. I made some friends during prefrosh that I still talk to now. If you have something more important to go to (read: prom), then go to that.

Harvard’s admit weekend conflicts with everything else, or else I would go. Dartmouth/Princeton off the top of my head. And several other colleges.

Then again, the schedule was…boring? It was basically like “This is Harvard. We don’t need to convince you to like it.”

There are a ton of prefrosh events put on by student groups that aren’t listed in the “official” programming schedule. You’ll find out about them when you get here. I recall party-hopping among 4 or so different locations one night.

The weekend is definitely what you make of it; it can be dull or amazing. It is a great opportunity to get to know the school a little first-hand and meet people in advance. But it’s not something you need to attend. So I’d go to prom. You only have that one night for your senior prom, but you can visit Harvard on your own another time (particularly if you’re really undecided and don’t have a good handle on what the place would be like), and if you choose Harvard, you’ll have 4 years to be here. There will be pre-orientation programs and then something everyone likes to call “freshman week” or “camp Harvard” (the first week of school), which is kind of similar to prefrosh weekend.

I’d go to prom, too. You can spend the next 4 years at H. Enjoy your last moments in HS :).

I’m in an almost-similar situation as Cahier26 and misterg
Accepted by Harvard, rejected by Yale and waitlisted at Princeton.
I would have chosen Harvard over either of them anyway, so I can’t wait to attend.

Yeah, I definitely decided to choose prom…I figure pre-frosh weekend is mostly trying to convince those who are choosing between a bunch of Ivy Leagues to go to Harvard, but I’m not in that predicament : ) (got rejected to Princeton and Yale). Plus, prom rocks…enough said.
