***Class Of 2015 NMSF Qualifying Scores***

so far no states cutoffs went up. Let’s keep it that way and congrats to all our current NMSFs!

@BLUEJAY1518 what is your source for the LA cutoff of 208?

Congrats to all who have heard! Such a long process! We haven’t heard from our school yet but my daughter seems to qualify with a 221 in FL. For all of you that are in the bubble, best of luck! Also, some of the best students at my kids school who got the most amazing opportunities in the past few years were not NM semifinalists. Don’t get discouraged by this, you all did well and there will be other opportunities!

My daughter made NMSF from Nebraska with 218. Congratulations all of you.

New York never goes as low as 214 (although I’m hoping for a miracle).

Only in wouldn’t take a miracle in most other states :(

As a mother of a high schools senior, I am very happy for all of you students and parents of students of the high school Class of 2015 who made NMSF. We currently live in one of the three highest-cutoff states (and no longer in IL as my name suggests), and as a result my child just missed the NMSF qualification score. They did, however, earn an SAT score of 2360 in their one and only sitting for the SAT. Should I be concerned that they did not attain NMSF status, especially since at least 13 other students in their school did? I recognize that this is not even a “problem”, so please pardon and indulge my question. Thank you, and congratulations to all of you.

212 in florida confirmed as semifinalist

illinoisan - With a 2360 on the SAT, should have no problems getting into any college. Some colleges offer near full ride scholarships based only on being a national merit finalist which I like because my kids are smart but not too driven so getting a 100k scholarship is nice if they don’t have an idea where they want to go. If you have a son, the only thing I can think of is that he wouldn’t be able to get into Deep Springs which only accepts National Merit Finalists. However, that is definitely the path less taken.

That is an amazing SAT score @illinoisan! I am routing for you @DrMom68 especially because we are a NY family living in FL

Thanks. I am happy for all the other kids, truly, in every state. I just subscribe to the belief that there should be a national cut off for a national merit scholarship.

I tend to agree @DrMom68, and was sort of hoping my kid would clear the hurdle in all 50 states, but I think he’ll fall short of the regular highs (CA, DC, MD, MA, etc). I feel especially conflicted by the MD cut, as we live right on the MD border. I doubt he would have scored any higher just 1 mile up the road.

Is there any recognition for students who do clear the bar in all states? Or is it irrelevant?

@Illinoisan…It depends on what your meaning of “concerned” is. If your child is interested in any of the schools that offer the large “unofficial” NM scholarships and you were counting on that money then there MIGHT be a reason for concern, but a near-perfect SAT score will quite possibly garner them an excellent merit award at quite a few schools also. Whether or not those schools are a fit for your child would again be the question.

Some families with NM kids don’t view state flagship level public schools like Bama, OU, Ok State, UKy, etc as being “elite” or “selective” enough for their child, so in those instances not achieving NMSF status wouldn’t be of any concern. If those types of schools would be a good fit for your child, Bama will guarantee full-tuition for 4 years for that SAT score and your child’s stats would make them a player for competitive merit awards as well.

I know it’s disappointing to miss the state cutoff by one point, but if the rest of your child’s stats are as competitive as their SAT score…I wouldn’t be concerned if I were you.

NY she had 225 she is in.

218 in MN is in.

@illinoisan: In a word, no! What an amazing SAT score. Run with it! You have permission to leave this site for good (or stay for laughs, but no stress!)

@thetrill1 - what about 217 in MN

@jrParent I don’t know for sure, my 218 is in, but I think its generally been around 215 or 216, so you should be alright!

CO. No announcement from HS yet, but D. scored 220, and based on post 1510 (CO<= 218), she should make it. Yippeee!!
