Thanks thrower1. We read all kinds of reviews about Siena so are not quite sure if it is truly comfortable and supportive, or stifling/homogenous and party obsessed. I appreciate youn sharing your recent knowledge. I am especially worried as the one thing that I read over and over is that Admissions promises the moon but in reality it is harder to get the major/classes that you want, and the students are not that academically oriented. Sigh. I figure it will all come out in the wash and we are trying not to obsess.

Accepted to Villanova, fordham binghamton Loyola MD Northeastern. Waiting on deferred to regular decision Boston College, waiting to hear from College of NJ, Boston Univ Hamilton and Colgate. I just got accepted to Northeastern, Binghamton, Villanova, Fordham and Loyola_MD I got a 12K a year scholarship from NU. Still waiting to see if I get any Merit Scholarships from Villanova, Fordham, Loyola. STill trying to figure out which school to go to. I was deferred to regular decision for Boston College, waiting on TCNJ, Boston Univ, Colgate, Lehigh and Hamilton. VU ranked 20, NU ranked 32, BU ranked 35 Fordham/Loyola around 45. Heard Fordham might be ranked alot higher next year because of the big investment in the business school. Someone said they got a scholarship from NU and Villanova. Wondering what your scholarship was from both schools and your grades/SATS were to get the scholarships. Any thoughts on the schools to help me make my decision. Of course merit awards if and when they come in will help me decide. Oh and I will probably end up going for an MBA. Help me decide

my daughter got an admission to SUNY New Paltz yesterday… The counselor considered it a reach for her because her average isn’t great though her SAT’s were… She may end up there simply because we don’t have the funds to send her to a private school but we’re awaiting other replies like everyone else.

rachelfran- I will be delighted if daughter ends up at New Paltz. Congrats.

New Paltz is a great school. My d was also accepted and I would be thrilled if she chose to go there! congrats to your D rachelfran!

New Paltz was one of my D’s top choices, she had gotten acceptances at NP & Albany but was waiting on her favorite, SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry (ESF) which she heard from this week. She immediately filled out the enrollment form and housing questionaire and asked me for the $400 deposit check! We’ve scheduled a visit for Accepted Student day over her Feb. break, figuring we might as well see Syracuse during the worst weather…

But then she asked if we could go to New Paltz’s Accepted Student day too and my feeling is ok, if you are really not sure, but no, if you’re just going for the experience. She admitted that that was what it was, so we’re doing the ESF day and have also scheduled a tour of Syracuse University itself the following day, as we didn’t even visit it when we originally toured ESF. I’m glad that both schools will be in session during our vacation, and she’s going to meet up with some students there from our town and hang out with them for a while. I have to admit, I’m pretty excited myself. But it’s a little bit of a let down each day when the mail comes. We had gotten used to the surprises that may be sitting in the mailbox!

Son accepted to Lawrence University on 1/18. It feels great to have a viable option and will hopefully make the next 8? weeks a little less stressful?

congrats bella and geogeo on the acceptances!

Congrats to all! D is now 3 for 3, with merit aid at all: Clark, Dickinson and Goucher. Really didn’t expect money at Dickinson, because apps are way up there, so she was overjoyed!

researching…congrats to your D!

Playing catch up as usual.

Congratulations on McGill Aniger! Great school and its wonderful to have that first one in the pocket.

Amanda, thank you for giving me an excuse not to sweep. Hope you are taking care of yourself. It sounds like a beautiful moment seeing your son read at the funeral.

Ohiomom, I am so sorry about your father. Know that our thoughts are with you.

College4three, I hope your issues are resolved and you can rejoin us as we celebrate all the good stuff that is coming up for these kids and commiserate over the less than good stuff that will come along too.

MOSB, Thank you for sharing your daughter’s resilience and triumph.

Stop showing off madbean, 75 and sunny, humph.

50isthenew40, fingers crossed on UCLA!

And last but not least, congrats to Emmybet and researching4emb’s Ds on Goucher! And geogeo on Lawrence! And Bella on the final decision. Yay! Lots of good news!

We just returned from a weekend of auditions. It was exhilarating. And we squeezed in some serious good stuff like an art museum, our favorite sushi place and thrift stores. I found my own eyes filling with tears now and then, thinking of her growing up, being proud. All that.

Each time I read here I am awed by our children, not just the stellar moments but their day to day diligence and growth. Yay for the next generation!

^ Somehow I managed to post in the wrong thread! But all congratulations still stand.

ED2 decision coming around next week.
It hurt my heart when my son got denied ED1 from his 1st choice college. It’s not so much that he doesn’t get in to the ED2 school- I just feel bad when he gets rejected because he is SUCH A GREAT KID.

Ouch.

Mommyg: I hope that your son gets good news next week. The waiting can get really hard. Try to keep busy to distract yourself. Hang in there.

My daughter just graduated from Rose this past May with a civil engineering major. While the school is smaller than what my daughter wanted she really enjoyed her time there and in the end she got her dream job, field engineer for Schlumberger in Russia.

The above message was for Freshman20112012,seem123 and chaieverymorning. I think they said their kids were accepted to Rose Hulman. I don’t post very often, so I left that out. If you have any other questions about Rose, let me know. In the past, they have been very generous with merit and need base aid. however the recent downturn may have affected that. I still have one to go class of 2012 a s who is not interested in engineering so Rose will not be an option for him. Good luck and Congrats on all the acceptances.

thanks so much :)

kinderny, My DD has been with the same group of girls since freshman year- some from day 1. A few of these girls finished amoung the top 10 students of their class. I never heard anything about having a hard time getting into classes/majors. One of the benefits of a small school is you a not just another student. My DD developed a rapport with one of her advisors from freshman year. When she was not able to get into the class she wanted, she went to him & he assisted in getting her in. He also served as an advisor (in addition to the assigned major advisor)to her throughout the 4 years. My biggest complaint is the forced meal plan on all students - even seniors.

Why is that a problem momofzach? Just go onto the schools website and look for the info you need. If you can’t find it, just call up the schools admissions office or financial aid and ask for the information. Don’t stress - they get calls like that all the time and if your son’s already been accepted they’re not going to take the offer away. ;)

Thanks thrower1, that is really helpful. Right now D is wavering between Siena and SUNY Albany. She does not think she will get in to what was her first choice of RD apps, and she does not care much any more, and she says she is only considering SUNY New Paltz “to keep Mom happy”. We attend a Pres. Scholars Day on Wed for Siena so after that we may have a better idea (also when we get their FA letter).
