Class of 2015 Results Thread

There is a tradition on CC for accepted (and, eventually, denied and waitlisted) students to list their information in one thread, which will help future applicants gauge their chances. Some information you might include-- date of application and when you heard back, GPA/SAT scores, class rank, college to which you applied, in-state or OOS, any "hooks" (e.g. recruited athlete), and anything else you feel is pertinent. I'm sure next year's applicants will appreciate your sharing.

Yes - that is why I listed my URM status under “Hook”.
Although I prefer to think that I was admitted because of my winning personality<grin>.</grin>

General Comments: My D’s guidance counselor was fairly discouraging of her chances at Penn State University Park, suggesting that her SATs needed to be in the 700s since her grades were mostly B+. However, her small private school is very rigorous and 25% of the students in her grade were national merit finalists or commended students. She took an advanced curriculum (Junior Year: Calc 1 Advanced, French Lit 1 Advanced, Chem II Advanced, Biology Advanced, American History and Lit). I’m happy to see she got admitted to Penn State though her first choice is Pitt and we are still waiting to hear from them.

Good luck to everyone!

Disturbed, you can do summer session even if you were accepted to fall semester. I think you just have to call to tell them you want to switch.

Oh really? But what about aid? Because the fafsa for summer ended in June I thought or am I wrong

General Comments: Penn State UP is one of my top choices, maybe even #1. Will have to wait and see how the rest of apps go. Any other out-of-staters?

Congrats, intrpdtrvlr! PSU is an awesome school and Happy Valley is a great place! My s has also applied OOS and is waiting to hear. When did you submit your application?

I got in! (That’s not the bad news). Like many of the posters, I had medium/above average scores for PSU main (560M, 660CR, 650W) and had a 4.14 W gpa in an all honors and AP curriculum. To cut it short: I’m happy I got in, PSU was my 1st choice.

Now…the bad news:
For those of you who have–not–gotten your decisions yet…the–only-- people who have received decisions thus far are those who were in that “700 person tech glitch” that happened last week. I’m friends with a couple of admissions people at PSU (well technically some of my friends in the world of meteorology [and who happen to be alumni and friends of the admissions people]) and they basically said…for those involved in this glitch: they’re acceptances stand. To be honest, considering the program I applied to (E&MS), --I’m–surprised I got a decision this quickly. I did think I’d get in, but I’m not a 5.0 gpa, 2300 SAT student and I applied to the best MET major school in the country (and PSU gets its fair share of 5.0/2300’s in its 60-70K applicant pool). In short: not trying to burst anyone’s bubbles (including my own!) but if you haven’t been admitted yet, and see people with lower stats…don’t worry about it. Admissions will start delivering–actual-- acceptances on the 2nd, and for those who’ve already gotten in: congrats, we can all feel relief in having certainty…but I don’t think I (or any of these 700) are going to be able to offer objective feedback on acceptances since, really…we don’t represent that 59-69K other students who are applying this year (how often do people with 3.0 gpa’s and 4XX’s on any SAT section get immediate notification on their acceptance to main campus?)…

PFF

mrdysart- I applied on September 8, and it said everything was in by september 20th i think. Good Luck to your son

For all who were accepted so far, did you find out through a letter or did you see it on your mypennstate account?

Both. It was posted on the Penn State Account yesterday and the letter arrived today.

Both - it was posted on MyPennState on Monday and received the letter the same day.

Wow! And I thought I was special.
I guess it does help to apply early…before they work out the glitches.

PSU is not the only school to have made this error.

"Most of the schools have simply admitted to their mistakes, apologized for the grievances they might have caused, and rescinded the incorrect messages of acceptance or rejection.

For instance, in 2004 the University of California-Davis sent acceptance e-mails to 90 transfer applicants who were actually rejected by the admissions board. Despite the momentary elation it might have brought to these students, the college simply apologized and encouraged them to “continue to work toward [their] four-year degree.” "
