Gender: F
Race: White

Reflection and General Comments: I was a scholars choice candidate, so I wasn’t that surprised to get accepted, but I’m still very happy since it was so competitive this year. Congratulations to all those accepted! I’m excited for admitted students day!

How do you know if you qualify for a merit based scholarship? If I got a merit scholarship babson would hands down be my number one choice.

I don’t see anything about merit scholarships under the financial aid tab. Does this essentially mean that I am not getting a merit scholarship?

I’d imagine that my SAT scores could warrant some scholarships?

I have no idea!! I emailed admissions asking but that might be futile since their inbox is probably swamped.

Reflection and General Comments: Overall, my stats are not the most impressive, so I would have to assume I’m on the lower end of the accepted spectrum. Didn’t receive any merit aid, but I’ll take the acceptance.

My son was accepted and the financial aid offered was very reasonable. Babson is now a serious contender for him to consider.

Good news! Merit is sent via mail, I got an email back from admissions.

Since I was complaining I didn’t get enough, they pulled up my file and told me I am a finalist for the Women’s 1/4 scholarship. So… a slightly bigger possibility of me going to Babson.

Did any one get merit scholarships? I am accepted, but I have no intention to go Babson without getting any scholarships.

Can someone who is in the same shoes here give me some advice?

Babson has been my dream school for a couple of years and while I suspected I would not be receiving need-based aid, I hoped I would get merit-based aid. Unfortunately, I received neither and my parents aren’t planning on helping out with nearly what the expected family contribution is as they are in debt themselves and have plenty of expenses already. Even if they find $25,000 a year for me, that leaves $35,000 a year in loans… meaning that by the time graduation hits, interest payments alone will be over $1,000 a month. How can that be justified over, let’s say, a free ride at a public school. I don’t want to follow the conventional career path and instead want to start a business like many of you – how can someone in my shoes justify Babson’s price tag ($240,000)?

Billy me. …You are going to be fine…pursue your passion for business and entrepreneurship. Temple or a good State School will also be fine for you. Your math cost analysis is right on. Believe in yourself…more than a particular institution.

Thanks Voyager, that’s comforting to know. I was hoping someone could give a few reasons for Babson, but it’s good to hear that it’s possible to succeed elsewhere as well.

Accepted!!! With serious financial aid. Seems like I will be going to Babson. Although I’m still waiting on two more schools and three finaid packages, only one (school and package) could make a difference, and I doubt it will. Someone told me that they were super surprised that I got in, considering the increase in applications and my credentials :P

Also applied for Blank scholarship, but got no notification of it so far…

General Stats:

Gender: Male
Race: White
School Type: Private

Congrats to all others in Babson '17 class, I will probably see many of you in the fall.

How are you all seeing your financial awards? Are you in FusionMX Babson Portal? If so, where? It shows my financial aid documents received, but when I click “Award Summary,” all it says is “Your financial aid package is under review.”

I have a D that attends Babson and the students are getting great internships and jobs. My D has a very high GPA. I believe that lower GPAs are due to kids that are coming to college to party and not taking college as seriously as others. My D is getting paid a lot for her internship and will earn six figures her first year…thus the payoff for Babson will be 2.3 years for her.

The accounting majors and finance concentrations are doing well in addition to the other concentrations. It does take effort to do well in college and it is important to be proactive/agressive to look for opportunities both at college and in the work world.

I know these opportunities are not unique to Babson, but I did want to let you know that the Babson students have a great academic experience with very diverse student body from all over the world. Babson also provides the opportunities to get involved and has great study abroad programs.

I am hesitant to recommend you take on so much debt. Perhaps you will get additional financial aid or can find another great option at a public school. There are many colleges where you can be successful. Good luck to you.

Archite,
I’m guessing you’ll be on campus this weekend. A few hints for the 1/4 scholarship: Be yourself and have fun, but at the same time realize that not everyone there this weekend will get the scholarship. Participate well by being a leader, but also by being a team player during the activities and show up early for your required meetings. Our daughter is a WLP member so you will probably meet her this weekend. She loves Babson. If you love business and are a hard worker you will love Babson too. Please let us know if you or your parents have any questions.

Anyone else going to Basically Babson day on Friday?
