Class of 2017 (From Nepal) - Official Discussion Thread. . .

@kushalpurie- kushal dai , I agree. Most of us are unaware about many things about College H, G, C, S e.t.c and our essays are rip offs. If I talk about me, my essay is polarising as my friends put it. Either it will impress or I will be reject at first thought as commented by friends. We are following waht we always folllow the safe side so this can be a drawback.
All of this said and done hope is all we have at last and no gurantee where we end up?
Do you agree guys?
(Forgive me for spell errors)

Bucknell University - RBS (1)
Cornell University - RBS (1)
Smith College - RBS (1)
Trinity College - RBS (2)
Washington and Lee University - RBS (1)
Yale-NUS College - RBS (1)
Bryn Mawr College - RBS (1)

Whatever happened with EDs, get over it. Concentrate on your RD applications. Good luck!

@Kushal Purie
How is everything?? Became unofficial GC again? ;)

Guys,
Mr. Purie is a great resource to talk to. He will not only help you for applications, but also about how to adjust in LACs, and the American culture. You should also look at Jacobs, The University of Hong Kong, AIT, ShreeRam, Hansraj, HEC Paris, and other European schools. Also, if you are coming here for Computer Science degree, then I suggest you to take some few courses in Linux and JAVA in Nepal itself after you get a college of your choice.

@hofstra456

Do those universities look at our SAT & TOEFL scores? (I’m talking about U Hongkong, AIT, ShreeRam, Hansraj, HEC Paris) I think it’s better to keep a second option. If I don’t get into a good US university, are these universities worth going? As I’ve heard, these AIT do not grant aid to undergraduate students. I don’t know about ShreeRam or Hansraj (they are only great for business studies). And yeah, I’m also planning to pursue a computer science degree.

The above mentioned colleges are better than most of the LACs in US. If you want to do technical degree here (in US), then I would suggest you to apply to Universities rather than LACs here (given that you can pay for those universities). I would say BYU (Utah) is one of the best place to be in (if you see academically and financially).
In addition, AIT does provide aid, but not full…upto 75% as far as I know. U of Hong Kong is a reputed university in the world, but you have to pay for room and board. I suggest you to find out people who are studying in those universities and do some research. For Hansraj, ShreeRam and Hindu in India, you can get full scholarship (Indian Embassy). If you are planning to do Computer Science, I would say going to India, or studying at Pulchowk or KU is not a bad option.
If you guys are more concerned about getting job after your graduation here, then I would say CS major is the best at the present moment.

Have you guys considered Washington University in St Louis?
Just wanted to let you know that last year, I turned down 3 ivies for WashU. Washington University in St louis is a fantastic college and here are some of the pros:

1)Jan 15th deadline
2)JUST COMMON APP- NO SUPPLEMENTS
3) Great Financial aid
4)Ranked among the top 3 in the nation for quality of life, food and dorms.

WashU is a hidden gem and most international students don’t know about it. You can do your own research about the college and you’ll find out how great a place it is. It’s up there with JHU, Northwestern, Brown, Cornell and Vanderbilt.
The acceptance rate last year was 15.4 % and average sat scores ranged between 2120- 2280.

WashU is in the mid west and has one of the friendliest student bodies in the USA. It was ranked No. 1 in " Happiest Students" some time ago as well. International students have a great time at WashU!

No extra essays required!

If you are considering universities with a world class education outside US, then Hong Kong should be a smart choice for you. The two very famous universities in Hong Kong are HKU and HKUST. Both have a very good education and reputation. Those interested in science ,engineering and BBA should consider HKUST. For other subjects HKU might be a better choice (although both are quite similar except for law and medicine, which are offered only in HKU). Both universities provide many scholarship for international students, and if you compare the tuition fee to US universities, it should be very cheap in HKU and HKUST. The deadline for HKUST is January 15, so you still have time to apply if you hurry up now. I am sorry that the deadline for mainround application of HKU has already passed. Good Luck everyone for your application processes and the admission decisions!

evangelical, what about Financial aid or Scholarships from HKUST? How Generous is HKUST assuming one is a competitive candidate?

If you are a good candidate, there is a very high chance that you will receive a good scholarship, although there are no financial aid available.

Anybody applying DePauw??

Yes, I did.

^^ Yeah DePauw is in my common app too. I’m applying.

Ani how many of us applied to Berea ni (i.e. if you are ready to share your plans)? I did…

I also applied to Berea College and received the email confirming that my application was received.

Depauw gives very tedious supplements to write for different Honors Program after we submit the application. So, save your time for that.

Depauw University- Chelsea(1)

hey guys! how are you all doing?

I applied to Berea as well, but haven’t received any email confirming the receipt of my application materials yet. almost missed the deadline! Maybe they are still processing the piles of applications that reached their office on the 15th.

one interesting fact: one adcom official at Amherst said that they receive two thirds of their applications on the final day of the deadline.

long live the procastinators.

@batuli what amount of money has Depauw has asked the person accepted from Chelsea to pay??

hey guys how are you all? hope you are doing great. where did you all apply to? I applied to HYPS, MIT and UChicago among others. I have also applied to DePauw.
@batuli: how much aid did that guy got? and what about you? where did you apply?

any decisions and acceptances guys?
