Class of 2017 (From Nepal) - Official Discussion Thread. . .

Yaa I agree with @Bibesh

US colleges had never accepted many Nepalese student at least for last few years. If you go through past threads, you will see many CAPABLE (after all this, I do not know what defines this term) students in similar state of grievance. Last year was far more disparaging than this year. On a brighter side,at least Trinity is accepting Nepalese students this year.

^couldn’t agree more…

There’s definitely a distinction between capable students, and students with a cutting edge to their applications- I’m sure 90% of the students who apply to Harvard could cope with the course load and significantly benefit from going there, but the tipping point comes with the converse- can Harvard (or any top level school, for that matter) benefit with the presence of that particular applicant? Will the intellectual capacities and perspectives of a certain student in fact contribute more to the college than another applicant? That’s where we fall behind: we’re smart, sure, we’ve got the grades and ECAs, sure, but then what? Our applications go flat after that.

I agree with @Neroketo. I think its because of the tradition that goes here in Nepal. Students aren’t prepared to explore what they are good at from the beginning of the school. They are prepared to be a so called respectable course like “Engineering and Doctor”. And when we come to know that there is a whole of opportunity in the world other than the mentioned fields, it will be late for us. So, we won’t have much time for intellectual growth and everything. For this reason also, money matters

hi guys!! I am new here, could u help me with a problem? I applied to us universities for the fall of 2013 and got accepted in few of them (st. louis, hofstra, nyit, texas weselyan) but the net amount I have to pay from the total cost of attendance amounts to $20-26000 in most of them. Is it normal… this amount? Is it worth it? I have decent academics and am from a middle class nepali family.

what is your Major going to be? If business, economics… I’d recommend to go for it if it doesn’t make your family suffer… I can’t suggest you about sciences or Engineering though… ask others for feedback on these fields…

Hey guys I have currently passed +2 and thinking of applying to US universities. I wanted to know about the gpa system of US as we have percentage system here. I want to apply to Ivy league schools mostly and want to know if I qualify for them

My SLC percent is 87.6%
11 - 74.6%
12 - 81%

I’ve been searching for dat info too… Percentage to GPA conversion?? Oh n guys the class of 2017…implies u guys are applying for the year 2014 right?? :D

No. It means we applied for year 2013.

don’t worry about percent to GPA conversion. It doesn’t matter.
