Class of 2017 - RD Decisions

Thank you Erinconomy - that helps. From what you said your financial aid award letter was not included with your Roll to RD acceptance.

Have you gone onto the Chapman Web Advisor to see if you can view your financial aid award?

Thanks Casadelewis for the update on how the waitlist works.

Hoping we get something in the mail soon - we are in So Cal.

Casadelewis, thank you for that information! You mentioned your daughter applied RD? Did her status change to “Decision Reached” on the portal or was their a “Waitlisted” status? Thank you!

My D actually woke up this morning and went out to the mailbox. Asked 'Mom, did we get the mail yet??" I had to remind her that it was Sunday and we will have to be patient for tomorrow or Tuesday.

Status was decision reached. It did not say waitlist on portal. The letter states you must email them if you want to be put on the waitlist. The letter will indicate your admission reps name and his/her email address. That is the person you email. She got accepted to UCI today. 3 acceptances, 1 waitlist, 5 to go… Best of luck to all of those that are awaiting decisions. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Yep, my financial aid award… Thing is up. It was marked the 16th (the day I got the packet.)

Thanks for responding coralbrook. We don’t live on the East Coast either. The cost of a last minute ticket east would be daunting. We decided if she’s admitted, she can go to the one on campus in the fall. If she’s not, then it would be awkward to send her. :(

Good luck to everyone.

^coralbrook…I check this thread primarily to see if your D got in because I know it is her top choice. I will send positive thoughts your way and hope you get a decision…both soon and POSITIVE!! My D is also waiting her decision. She applied as a business major, not tomDodge, and although she hopes that every school she applied to will accept her, she realizes that no matter what Chapman decides, it is most likely not the school that she will wind up at. For those who have it as a top choice…Good Luck!

Just received the big fat white envelope in the mail. Excited for my son. We’re in SoCal. I knew last night before the package arrived since the financial letter was posted. My son never thought to check that.

We have received the small envelope. I’m afraid it is a rejection/redirect for my daughter. (I have to admit that I held a flashlight up to the letter and I can see ‘We regret to inform you’. Pretty sure it is not even a waitlist opportunity.)

I am going to the store to get Kleenex and comfort food dinner. My D does not know yet.

I have known for several days, ever since Erinconomy told us about the financial aid letter on the website - and we didn’t have one.

:(

The irony is that my D completed a teen suicide public service announcement that her teacher chose to submit to a California competition. She just got news at the end of the last week that it was chosen as a finalist and she will be going to Sacramento for the finals. A day late and a dollar short - it was too late to inform her admin rep.

^coralbrook…I am so sorry to hear that you did not get the decision that you were hoping for. I hope that your daughter has some other great options out there. Talented people will succeed wherever they go. Best wishes to her in college and beyond.

While it feels super awkward to post after coralbrook’s heartfelt post - My daughter is IN! This is without a doubt one of the happiest moments in my life (and her’s). She is over-the-moon-happy!

Coralbrook - I have rehearsed the moment that you are going through a million times. I just asked my daughter how a mom should handle this - she got big tears in her eyes. While it sounds cliche at the moment - “everything happens for a reason” is what I was prepared to say to her. Thanks for your listening ear on this blog. It was truly a port in the storm during this difficult process. I’m sending you positive thoughts!

I’m sorry Coral. Sending positive thoughts to your daughter. A BIG CONGRATS to her heading to Sacramento I wish her success and that it opens many doors.

Coralbrook, so very sorry to hear about the thin letter for your daughter. I know this was her #1 choice for so long, I can’t even remember what #2 is for her. I’ve been watching this thread and that other one you and I frequent, mostly to see how it worked out for her.

This happened to our oldest and, and she is now happily completing her junior year at one of three #2s she had identified early on, where she was waitlisted for a mercifully short 2 weeks.

Kids are so remarkably resilient. My daughter re-grouped within a few hours, faster than her parents. A good friend took her out immediately for bubble tea, all the rage that year. That night I cooked the same lobster dinner we would have had had she been accepted (decisions came out online, at a specific time)—that’s what she decided on ahead of time.

Hugs to you all. You’ve been an amazing college coach and Mom during this process.

Congrats to Jacary’s daughter, too.

Ahh, dang it, coralbrook! We were all rooting for your daughter, 100%. I’ve been following your posts since the beginning, too.

There is nothing harder than seeing our kids pursue a dream, and then to have to soothe them through disappointment, instead. <hugs></hugs>

I still wonder if it’s worth trying to appeal, with the new award in hand. Hard to say, as it can be best, sometimes, to move on.

Best wishes to you. I hope that she will love her other options and that another door opens–one that will be full of wonder for your dear daughter in the year ahead.

Just got in to Digital Arts! With a scholarship of $25,000! Excited, but not attending. I’ve already enrolled in SJSU’s Animation program. Very relieved to finally receive the packet in the mail. Don’t worry for you peeps who were waitlisted, as is common everywhere a good deal of accepted students will not be attending.

Accepted to film studies with the chancellors scholarship. Very thankful for the Chapman reps.

Does anyone know if merit aid announcements are posted online as part of the FA letter, or a separate communication in the acceptance envelope? With two in college, that’s a make or break issue for our family. We realized our D’s letter went to her high school address (out of state) so we not going to see a letter until next week when school starts again :(

So sorry for that coralbrook. I remember a similar situation three years ago when my D decided to leave our “lousy” school district and go to high school out of state. The “regrets” came two days before the acceptances and I thought my heart would break. In the end, she landed at a fabulous program. But in those two days we ate a lot of comfort food.

I hope the letter leads not to a rejection but a waitlist. You’re in our thoughts and prayers.

It is a full rejection, she was not offered a spot on the waitlist. In hindsight she was just not ready with her best essays in November, I should have had the guts to stop her and wait to apply on Regular Decision date. She would have had a better GPA with her senior mid-year transcript and a stronger Creative Resume with her fall film projects. She sent updates to the Admin Rep, but I think they were ignored. For example, the website doesn’t even show receipt of the mid-year transcript or an updated Creative Resume receipt date.

It is what it is.

Sending many hugs and a PM for inspiration.
