This is interesting. Even though my son is one of the 19 with an acceptance, he may not even enroll in college. He is leaning towards enlisting in the military and I’m trying my best to dissuade him.

Wow…got my son’s first response today, accepted to the U of Tampa (they got his app on the 16th and sent out the acceptance on the 17th! He thinks that looks ‘desperate’… LOL). It’s not one of his top choices, but at least I know he’ll definitely be in school next year (and with scholarship money too!)

Congratulations to all!! We are clipping along lately on this thread. :)

My D received her second academic acceptance today: Point Park University. While the academic acceptances are nice, I will be really, really over the moon when she gets that first theatre acceptance!!

D has already been accepted to UW Whitewater, but we received her letter yesterday stating she was accepted into their Honors Program. Yay! With the merit award they gave her, this school is looking like the front runner. :D

D received her acceptance to the Ballet program at U of Oklahoma last Saturday! She started crying her eyes out with happiness. First college audition and acceptance in the books!

FABULOUS news, luvmiballerina! Does she have more auditions in store?

My D starts her portfolio reviews/interviews in about a week and a half. I’m a nervous wreck, and she has a good bit to do to get those materials in tip top shape!

Luvmiballerina - congrats to your D (and you!) on her acceptance!!! Performing arts programs acceptances are such a special thing! :)

Luvmiballerina - you made me cry! Sooooo happy for you and your ballerina :D

Congrats to all the new additions. I just love seeing our kids have options for their dreams. Such an exciting time in our lives!!!

Thank you all! Yes, she has more auditions coming up…U of South Carolina this coming Saturday, Butler 11/16. Indiana 11/30 and Utah Feb 9.

Can’t wait to hear about more performing acceptances here!

Congrats to all acceptances and $$$! My D got accepted to Valparaiso University with 18K/year presidential scholarship! Not the first choice, but what a great feeling!

Congratulations psblstnr! It’s nice to have that as a possibility!

(MaryMac15535’s mom here): My D has been accepted @ Monmouth College (IL) & Franklin College (IN) so far. Monmouth has already made a partial financial aid offer of a $16K “Academic Achievement Scholarship” (which would make it cheaper than UIUC already - if our “plan B” for there weren’t to have her share an off-campus apartment with her brother who goes there). Franklin has invited her to interview for their merit scholarships on-campus some day during the first full week of December (we’re shooting for a Saturday interview, so she won’t miss as much school).
She applied non-binding EA to University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), and we’re fairly confident about her chances of being admitted there. She’s also applied to a bunch of elite East Coast schools, though (all RD via the Common Application; 5 of 8 added so far are Ivies) – and those will basically be a crapshoot, in hopes of getting the fantastic financial aid at those places. (We are trying to talk her into adding a few more schools to the Common App, esp. test-optional places or ones which don’t require the Writing portion of the ACT - but it’s like pulling teeth sometimes! :frowning: )
Her test scores (ACT (no Writing) & SAT) are not as high as we’d like, so we’re hoping that she fits a demographic niche (small-town Midwesterner) which one of the colleges may be looking for, in search of a “well-rounded” student body.
Her current passion is for Elementary Education (with longer-term plans to become a school counselor), with secondary teacher certification in English as a second choice (for those colleges without ElEd programs).

Luvmiballerina - did Sandy affect your D’s audition at USC?

Hi! Nope, we were not affected by Sandy at all. We made the drive down to Columbia early Saturday morning for her audition. There were 46 dancers at the audition. DD absolutely loved both the ballet and contemporary classes. And the best news is that she and 4 others were accepted on the spot! The interest shown by the director coupled with the great classes and facilities have surprisingly moved this program up closer to the top of the list. I have hope now that maybe my girl won’t be going so far away after all!

^^^ Great news!!! It’s nice when the college “shows the love” too :)

Just wanted to add my congrats to luvmiballerina and all the others, since I haven’t really lurked on this thread recently.

To be honest, it was starting to get a little depressing, seeing everyone post acceptances and not having anything to report. That all changed yesterday with the arrival of our DS’s first accept letter from University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa.

Such a relief to know someone “wants” your child, isn’t it!!??

We’re still waiting for a Tulane decision, but my son has gotten into all his safeties and most with $$.

Yesterday he got an acceptance letter from Eckerd College, and the dean of admissions wrote a personal note on the letter that related directly to what my son’s essay was about.

I thought that was SO nice…really impacted my son’s feeling about possibly attending! (we still have to visit). Better than feeling like they just look at the numbers!!

Mavitale–that really is a nice touch from Eckerd, it would move them up a notch for me!

Good luck to all. My S received his first accept and hoping for more from
his other top choices. engineering is the plan.

Hi. I feel the need to post to balance out the son-daughter ratio here! My S has two acceptances in hand so far: Tampa (honors, with $$) and Tulane ($$$). We are going to visit Tulane at the end of the month. I am thrilled because with the Tulane scholarship, we can afford to send S to a private university, which is really what I wanted for him. (Tampa was a last minute safety, also private, but off the table now.)

I am so proud of him. He has worked so hard and has been so committed. I was on his case to get everything done ahead of schedule - testing junior year, common app essay in August, apps out early. While he is still waiting to hear from other schools (especially Miami, FL, which will be around Feb 1), it is such a relief that he is DONE and has such an amazing opportunity already with Tulane (acceptance online on 11/1, letter in mail with scholarship on 11/5). He has even admitted that he is glad that I was on his case; he sees his friends still taking tests, working on apps, and is happy to have that behind him!

So happy for all of you who already have acceptances. My D didn’t have an acceptance in-hand until sometime in December (which I thought was early). It is so nice to have great news before Thanksgiving!
