Class of 2017 Results: Celebrate, Discuss, Support Here

Montana State has a stronger program with more students in her major, but I think there might be a fear of the bitter cold in Montana. Noone in our family has experience with those types of winters. I don’t even know how she would walk between classes in the sub zero cold. I’m thinking Flagstaff may be cold, but might have more months of reasonable weather.

Flagstaff is warmer (on average) than Bozeman during the winter (Dec-Feb). Flag is really quite pleasant in winter.

Flag gets a bit more snow than Bozeman; 100 inches vs 84 inches. But the snow in Flag quite often melts soon after it falls because it often warms into the 40’s during the winter months. Snow tends to fall and stay all winter in Bozeman. Lots of slushy conditions in Flag.

Oh Geez, you are scaring me. Snow, what’s that???

I honestly think that my daughter has seen snow only twice in her life. Once when we had to drive all the way up to Big Bear in a horrible traffic jam just so we could give our daughter the opportunity to look out the window and see snow (never doing that again!!). The second time was a magical snow - we were on a glass boat on the Seine in Paris at Christmastime and snow flakes starting coming down, but very briefly.

Needless to say, I just don’t think any snow is going to be popular but I really appreciate the explanation between Flagstaff and Bozeman. They are both like foreign countries to us.

Would graduate school acceptances count on that thread?

Catria, go for it. As the mom of a well employed MBA daughter, I appreciate the merits of grad school.

My son applied EA to Cal Tech and his app was deferred. I think I was prepared for acceptance or rejection. Any body else in the limbo boat?

Then I got into a thesis IndE MS at Polytechnique.

The last of D’s acceptances are in. Loyola University - Chicago w/ Dean’s merit scholarship. This was her dream school but even with a $16,000 award it is still out of reach financially. D is very happy with her decision to attend UW Whitewater and can’t wait to tell her Aunt/Godmother that she is following in her her footsteps. She plans to give her an alumni shirt at Christmas with the news :D

@stoccermom - yes, we are in the saaaaame boat. D, in her typical fashion, said “hey! I wasn’t rejected!” and proceeded to text her friends the happy news. :)

Stoccermom, my daughter just got deferred at her dream school. Don’t know if I can wait until March to find out. We just discussed everything she will need to do to strengthen her application - huge grades at semester end, do some more important projects for her Creative Resume, etc.

D accepted at Northwestern ED. Much joy in mudville.

Congratulations, all, and sending good mojo to those who are still waiting!

I got accepted to Emerson (my first choice that I thought was a total reach) for Writing, Literature & Publishing on Monday! I could not be happier.

Still waiting on Ithaca and Lesley as well as a state school but as long as the finances work out I’m going to Emerson!

Son applied early action to Princeton, got deferred. Great SATs and GPA, AP tests, rigorous curriculum, but not so great on EC’s and no hooks. So now it’s time to submit applications to Brown, Duke, SUNY Geneseo, Emory, Dartmouth, University of Rochester and Wooster and see what happens. Wants to major and math and go to medical school. Congratulations to all who got acceptances and good luck to those still waiting.

I just discovered this thread. Congrats to everyone whose kids have been accepted! Ksheja, I’m sorry your son was deferred at Princeton, but with so many things going for him, he is sure to get in one of the others (or later into Princeton RD!). My son got into Amherst College ED and is absolutely elated!! He had done rough drafts for many other essays and had started other apps (Carleton, Wesleyan, Williams, Lawrence, Grinnell, Brown, Middlebury, and a few more)–spent all of Thanksgiving break on those–so is is thrilled that he is done now!

I saw that some colleges have already made financial aids offer? Is that typical? My daughter got accepted to Mich, Purdue, New Mex, UT, Minn but except for Minn, no talk of money yet. For Minn, it was just a standard $5K to reduce OOS to in-state tuition

I think most of the financial packages (other than scholarships) are from ED schools that required the CSS profile to be filled out already.

just got news that I was accepted to Lesley University with their largest merit scholarship (the dean scholarship)!! So now I’m 2 for 2. Waiting on 2 more. Congrats to everyone else and good luck!

Congrats to everyone for all the good news! Such an exciting holiday and acceptance season!

Lilkickster - congrats on Lesley. It seems like a very special place. I looked at it for my son. But it doesn’t have any major he’s interested in sadly.

Well, as the new forumer around, I might as well introduce myself properly by saying which college I’ve been accepted to.

Acceptance of Virginia Tech, and recipient of the Emerging Leadership Scholarship from the VTCC alumni.
