Class of 2017 Results: Celebrate, Discuss, Support Here

For some reason I never knew this thread existed until today. My DD was accepted ED to Duke University, and is still as excited today as the day she found out. Congrats to all!

AS is waiting to hear from Duke, did RD and just had interview last Sunday. Congrats!!!

Best of luck to you & your son bestmomever3!

Thanks LosAngelesMom I look at all the other kids scores on this site and they have done amazing. AS got into some amazing schools with his lower scores of 2010 and ACT 32 and was giving amazing scholarships. So I guess to all those other moms out there your child doesn’t need the perfect 2400, they just have to do their best and be an all around kid involved in different things. (dont get me wrong my AS would have loved to have the 2400, but he didn’t study and took it once. Hated SAT’s loved ACT better) Good luck everyone…no matter what school they get into they will ALL be happy…

Last night, oldest daughter accepted the Northern Arizona University (NAU) offer. She was going to apply (and never did apply) to Northeastern, American University, UC-Denver, and UC-Colorado Springs. She really wanted to attend NU or AU but there was no way it would compete financially with NAU. NAU was 3rd on her list, she’s happy, it has a good program for her (criminal justice), and we are happy (school is 90 minutes from our home).

School: Northern Arizona University (Flagstaff, AZ)
Decision: Accepted
Tuition Waiver Scholarship
SAT: 1,900
GPA: 3.70 UW

Currently, our daughter has been accepted at her safety schools: Lake Forest, U of Puget Sound, CU, and Willamette, all with sizable merit scholarships, making them doable. Still waiting to hear from Colby, Dartmouth, Bucknell, Davidson, Vanderbilt, Carlton, Whitman and Occidental. In general, she wants a small LAC with good science, premed, and perhaps swimming. She is an IB Diploma Student. The waiting begins.

Daughter accepted to UIUC, USC and WashU! Five more schools to hear from…waiting.

Congratulations to all

My son was accepted to 3 schools in the past week. I wonder why all the information online talks about acceptances coming in late March at the earliest.

LexDad - I am a bit confused but for a different reason. DS applied early action to one school (Yale) and did not get in. Every other school (UCs, UChicago, Northwestern, HYP, Brown, etc.) state that they will send their decisions sometime in mid to late March. He did however get accepted to USC late January, in connection with an invitation to interview for a Presidential scholarship. I know some schools have rolling admission, but not many. I know also that athletes hear early. But other than that, I wish I knew how other applicants have heard already. What am i missing? I have 2 more kids so I am asking for future reference  Thoughts anyone?

In addition to rolling and ED (binding), there are many, many schools with EA deadlines. My D applied EA to 6 or 7 of her schools and she has heard from all at this point. The rationale was that many of the merit aid deadlines were early Nov/Dec so she wanted to meet those, and she was ready to complete the applications (3 were common app with supp essays). One school actually made it easier to apply EA by not requiring for any essays at all! Personally, I like the peace of mind and she’s only waiting now on one RD. She is relaxed and happy with her choices.

Our one stipulation was that she cannot make her final decision until all of the merit offers are here at the end of March and she can accurately compare COA.

Thanks Snorkelmom. Sounds like you have a great plan of action. I thought that applicants could only apply to one school early but obviously that was not the case :)

Believe me, I have learned so much about the process from veterans on this forum! I think the key with my younger son will be to complete the majority of testing junior year as well, so that he can apply EA to as many schools as he’s interested in. We never considered ED, if it was also offered, as the potential for merit aid was important in her decision. So we will still be waiting with everyone else, but the wait doesn’t seem to be as uncomfortable maybe? For her anyway, it’s killing me ;)

I am with snorkelmom. Having EA acceptances in hand has made the wait easier. Still waiting like all others on some end of March decisions, but even if S’13 does not get in to any of those schools, he has great choices now. We will be definitely be going with a mixture of EA and RD the next time around with S’18.

My daughter got into all the schools she applied to: Arkansas, Ole Miss, LSU and UT Austin. She will be attending UT Austin!!!

Hey I 'm a 2016 parent dropping in. Posted this on the wrong thread this AM, but did any of you guys get university alumni magazines before your positive admissions decisions? My kid applied ED last year and about 2 weeks before decisions came out he got the college magazine. At first I thought it was just cuz he applied, but then I started thinking maybe it’s an omen?
