My goal is to go to UCLA and UCSD and get full rides to college. I want to major in biology or chemistry and go to medical school so i can become a pediatrician.
Any tips on what programs or scholarship i should specifically apply too that meets my need? What colleges am i looking at with this information? Summer programs? College fly ins? college tours in southern California for free? Any information can help.
I actually started an African-American HS c/o 2018 thread, so please check it out! We listed a ton of summer programs and in the older threads there’s info about fly-in programs and scholarships.
In the 12th grade, make sure to take AP Physics 1 or Honors Physics, AP Calculus (AB or BC, doesn’t matter), AP Chemistry, Honors (Advanced?) English, AP Econ/Gov, AVID.
Good schools for CA lower income students, beside UC’s (+ SDSU for you), would be schools like Pomona, Pitzer, Whitman, Lewis&Clark. All are supportive of their premeds and have generous financial aid - run the Net Price Calculator to see which one(s) would be affordable.
That will get you full tuition at Alabama State, for a full ride you need to prep. Try studying using Khanacademy.org and see if your school’s Naviance has a free ACT prep program. Also reserve test prep books at your public library.
