It is that time of the year, and Berea College (The Harvard of the South) remains top choice for most students. Let’s keep the discussion courteous and respectful; please share your experiences, pros, cons, etc. Remember, Berea College is very distinctive in many aspect of its operation, thus most colleges do not fit into it’s category when it comes to RANKINGS.
Best of Luck to all.

I am applying to Berea too… Is there anyone else applying there from Nepal?

I’m applying to Berea too. I’m from Ethiopia.

3151student and Privateape, glad to see both of you in the forum. I had an opportunity to ask an alumni about the application process, and what I took from the discussion is that, as people get their EA results from other IV league schools through January, Berea gets a much higher increase in application than most colleges during this Regular cycle. This confirmed that fact that applying earlier to Berea College becomes a huge advantage in all perspective. Best of luck to everyone.

Guys … how are we supposed to fill up the application forms of Berea. I mean do we need to print out the application form and fill it and post them. Or can we fill them ,scan them and send them online to college? I am sorry I do not know anything beyond the commonapplication.
And what about the recos? How do the teachers send them ? The transcripts? Who sends them?
Its not the commonapplication … so I am not confident how to proceed. Can you help me?

ccco2018 which country are you from ?

It is definitely different for international students. The best scenario is following the guideline on this site. One complete package mailed by you directly to Berea college, with all in information listed there. Letters of Rec MUST BE CONFIDENTIAL (IN A SEALED ENVELOPE )from your Advisors, and included in the same package you mail out.
Definitely follow this Guide on the college link below:

Best of Luck.

The GREAT USA. lol… but out of state and Region. So you can say that the competition with this group is quite as competitive as the international students group.

Cco2018 Thank you so much. Again I am not very clear about the deadline.
Does the applcation packet need to reach Berea by Jan15 ? That means we need to post it earlier.
Or is it the postmark deadline? Means we should submit to the post office by jan15?
Please help me . :)

And regarding the essay? OMG!! its 2-5 page long re :o What do we do there? The instructions make it clear and it seems we have to write a story of our life. Do we need a focus in this essay?( a cliched tip to write commonapp essay:) )… Or can we narrate what our life has been like until now … and our aspirations … and all… ? Its a bit different than the commonapp so I need some guidances and precautions.
Can you invite any Berea student or Alum here Cco2018? That will be great help.

3151student, page 3 of this link "<a href="http://www.berea.edu/admissions/international/apply/info/“>http://www.berea.edu/admissions/international/apply/info/”
states that the application package must be received by Berea college on or before 01/15/2014, to be considered for admissions, NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule.
So If I was in your situation, I would mail it out ASAP.

3151 student, in regards to the essay, 2 to 5 pages is not that much, remember this is typed and double spaced. So it can certainly be the equivalent or just a little more than the requirement for common application.
In perspective, like in any college essay, it is always best to “TELL YOUR STORY”, and include anything that makes you different than all other applicants - i.e something that BEREA should certainly know about you that is not, maybe included in any other part of your application. Then, followed by your desire for why BEREA is your #1 choice. This should also include your future aspirations, what you intend to study if you are decided, and what you intend to do upon graduation.
Certainly you can accumulate upto 3 pages - double spaced -12 fonts, discussing something like this.

*The Alumni I spoke with was on a different forum, pre-med/pre-pharmacy/pre-engineering forum I think, and I have not been back to that forum, the discussion was mostly tailored to college seniors or graduates applying to Graduate schools. I hope at some point when school resumes in January, maybe some of the current students might be able to join the discussion and answer our questions. Most of mine, were answered during my campus visit.**

Thanks a lot cco2018 :)

You are welcome.

Hi ccco2018, I am an international student. I cannot access the website. Can you help me type the checklist for international students for me?

Hello UYEN1993, welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear that you can not access the net for the application materials. I have included the list of requirements here from the web site.
However, I do not think you will have enough time to order the application package from Berea College and then return it in-time to meet the dateline.
The best scenario now would be to try and find an internet cafe near you (not sure where your location is), and download the application and required forms, fill them out, including the recommended materials and test scores, so that your application can be receive by due date to be considered for admission.
The website clearly states that the application package must be received by Berea college on or before 01/15/2014 by 5.00pm, to be considered for admissions, NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule.

So If I was in your situation, I would find an internet cafe, print out the forms, fill, attached all the requirement in one big envelope, and mail it out ASAP.

Below is the requirement for International Students:

Required Application Materials [Applying for Admission as an International Student - Office of Admissions](http://www.berea.edu/admissions/international/apply/)

A complete application packet for an international applicant with no transfer credit consists of:

1). An International Application for Admission and Scholarship form including a personal essay.
2). A completed Financial Questionnaire
3). Official secondary school records.
4). Official scores from at least one of the following exams: TOEFL, IELTS, ACT or SAT I.
5). Two (2) letters of recommendation, at least one of which should be written by a current or former teacher.
6). One Financial Reference Form
7). Optional Financial Circumstances Form

Applications from international applicants are considered only for the fall term of each year. International admission decisions for fall are made in March and all applicants should be notified of their status by letter and email (if available) by April 15.)

Again BEST OF LUCK TO YOU.

How is everyone holding up? Apps are all in.

Oh my god!! My application packet is uncompleted.

Why is that? Did you call the school to check your status?

hey guys, is there supposed to be an interview for international student applying?
