Anyone going to Carnegie in Nov…better get their hotel…I found out most hotels on certain weekends require 2 night minimum. And most close to Carnegie are booked months in advance in the fall. UGH.
My D will be there Nov. 10!

I did priceline and named my own price and got a great deal when we went last year

Times3, I am just starting spreadsheets (I’m a junior) and I’m wondering if there’s a possibility I could see yours? I’m not sure what to include or how to fit everything in one tiny Excel window!

Abigailmorris, I definitely wouldn’t mind but I don’t know think I can just post it; can you PM me and we will figure out a way?

What is a recommendation list? I think I’m afraid to ask!!

On common app they ask for recommenders such as academic teachers and counselors

Nordeal, my son had schools requiring everything from “one recommendation only” (which can be the college/guidance counselor) to the more typical “counselor plus two academic teachers” to “one academic and one artistic” to “NO artistic recs allowed” to “send one teacher rec with application and bring an additional artistic rec to the audition”–and I don’t think I’ve covered all the bases here! We made a spreadsheet to help my son keep track and also to give to his college counselor, who was responsible for uploading all the school-submitted recs via Naviance. But my son had to snail-mail recs to a couple of schools plus hand-carry one to at least one audition, so the spreadsheet helped keep track of that stuff. For schools using the Common App, the kids (and of course their counselors) can see on their account which recommendations have been uploaded, so that helps too. Hope that was helpful instead of confusing!

We just completed taping the pre-screens. Wow, what a feeling!

LoveMyMTGirl - You give me hope!!

Filming the songs on Tuesday night. Son has definite ideas of what he wants to wear (now he cares?!), so we have been looking high and low for just the right shirt, which of course doesn’t match the two pairs of khakis that fit beautifully and purchased months ago. Doesn’t want a button down shirt that has buttons on the collars, Hello, we’re in Maine, land of the preppy look…

Times 3 …thank you…I do get it and it has been a frustration for us as well! I should probably do what you are doing but haven’t totally wrapped my brain around that part yet! and then just when you think you have it together we had one school say we had to snail mail all of it including transcripts and another essay to a separate address even though admissions has all they asked for and they won’t confirm her audition until we do! For the cost of some of these schools they should make the process a little easier! LOL

Nordeal, I completely agree and wish there could be more consistency among schools–for applications, auditions, and most of all prescreens! Visual arts applicants have similar problems, with schools requiring a huge range in terms of what needs to be in portfolios and what format students should use (slides, digital, CD, DVD, website, upload site, blahdyblahdyblah). Frustrating for students and parents AND teachers! And then, as you say, the schools are expensive…and on top of that they charge for the privilege of submitting your materials and performing your audition. Primal scream, anyone?

I feel like I have nothing to check on right now…calm before the storm? Ruling on the 2 prescreens he submitted are in. Apps are done, pending a few recommendations here and there. Headshots and resumes printed for the trip to Wright State this week. Gotta get my “do we have this in the car checklist” ready. He still has to record and send prescreens to MI and Ithaca this week, hopefully tomorrow having trouble coordinating with the accompanist. So far so good.

Poor kid is stressing over his skin breaking out, which it never has in his life so why not start before his first college audition? LOL

First academic acceptance!!
Just had to share this somewhere- my daughter got an academic acceptance email from Marymount Manhattan yesterday. Although she does not audition there until February, it was so cool to see 'YOU’RE ACCEPTED!" next to her name. Does anyone know what Marymount’s class size/acceptance numbers are??

Congrats to your daughter, bob18!! (cool screen name!)

Awesome! We felt that way with his first academic acceptance, proved we sent everything in correctly…was a relief! There are a few conversations about Marymount on here if you search I’d guess that answer is around.

Thanks, MT parents- it’s so nice to get a little boost along this journey, even if it doesn’t amount to anything down the road. I feel a bit of relief as all my daughter’s applications are in and auditions are scheduled, but her monologues are far from being ready!

All 18 apps have been submitted including essays, supplements, letters of rec, dance, acting & vocal pre-screens, headshots, and resumes. All auditions have been scheduled (CCM, CMU, NYU, Elon, BoCo, Emerson, Pace, Seton Hill, American, Point Park), and all travel plans have been made. Academic acceptances have started coming in, and she has one invitation to audition from her pre-screen (Pace) so far. Aside from waiting for (hopefully) more invites to audition based on pre-screens (Penn State, Ithaca, Otterbein, Florida State, Michigan) and printing out resumes and headshots…My question is…NOW WHAT!!! Am I the only one who feels like I’m forgetting something?

Not at all, Hannahsmom, I just find new things to obsess over! HAAAA!!! I started reading more about the programs and their heads and then wanting her to go to x,y or z school SOOO badly! I really had to stop that. The latest thing I did was put together/add more info to the spreadsheet of prescreen requirements for the taping in a couple of weeks. OH and I sent her songs/cuts to the person doing her backing tracks. Other than that, I’m pretty bored and in wait mode for items from third parties so I can go back to obsess mode. I’ve decided I really need to go back hitting the gym at least 4 days a week so that I have much less obsession time! LOL

GSOMTMOM wish there was a like button on CC!!!

Waiting waiting. We have 2 auditions on campus in the next 10 days I have posted asking anyone that had indicated that they have already auditioned- what the auditions have been like at Elon and CMU…no one responds :(. I promise to give details on our experience.

Well I second the need for a “like” button. Our first audition is B-W on 11/16, and I promise to post what I know (it will be second hand, since I am not going with her).
All our apps are in as well…unless she learns of something new she “just has” to apply to. I am still chasing down some last minute letters of rec…but mostly done with the worst part. I too have the feeling that we are missing something.
