1/2 tuition award from Rose. There maybe additional for NMF don’t know. Need to plan a visit. Cost is still much higher than other offers my son has, but Rose has a lot to offer.
@Steven – Agree that $40K is a lot, even with what we saved already. Son has 2 great in state options (Va Tech and UVA) that he is waiting RD on. Also Vandy and Rice RD.
@ Event – Rose does offer a lot, but my son is at a Science/Tech HS now, so he may want to opt for a larger university environment vs. another small Sci/Tech school.
@EventHorizon32 Well here you are on another board that I frequent! As you know, my oldest son is a freshman engineer at Texas A&M. My next son is a HS senior and is considering RHIT, Miami (OH), Portland University, Trinity University, Arizona State (Barrett Honors), and Arizona (Honors), all for engineering. He got good scholarships from all of them, but RHIT is the most expensive. He also was accepted by Santa Clara, but they gave him nothing. He loved A&M, but has been in his older brother’s shadow all his life, so he wants to take his own path.
We visited RHIT in 2013 and were very impressed. The facilities, teaching, and student support are as good as anywhere. If we could work out the finances, I would love for my son to got there. If you send me a PM with your email address, I will send you my visit write up.
Hi @Beaudreau, just sent you a PM. Thanks.
Looks like you have some good choices with lots of merit aid. We did not apply to ASU (Barrett), but did consider it.
RHIT’s appeal (for my younger son) is the smaller class size, classes taught by professors and not as much weeding out like the other bigger Universities. Also RHIT has a great reputation when it comes to internships/jobs. My older son (at UT, Austin) said the other engineers interning with him in Austin were from RHIT and Berkeley.
I also thought the COA was in the 50’s not 60’s. It will be much more expensive than his current offers. We are still waiting on a few more offers. Tough decisions to make for all of us.
Does anyone know if Rose would consider matching the amount of a scholarship offer from another school? If so then it will make Rose a more attractive option for my son. Thanks.
It’s definitely worth a try.
I heard some people tried that with University of Michigan and were successful getting the full tuition waived.
We do not award match. Fair question, but we can’t allow other schools to determine the amount we offer to students. We must be consistent in our scholarship award process and award matching removes all consistency.
