Class of 2019 (the journey begins) - Sharing,Venting, Etc

I second the idea of looking back fondly…an idea I would have LAUGHED at a year ago. Maybe it was the excitement of the hunt/chase (and underneath all the stress, it’s exciting, a whole world of possibilities). Or maybe it’s just that I am missing D (who is having the time of her life, but is 8 hours away) so darn much…

I haven’t been on CC very much lately, as I’m so far removed from the audition process that I don;t feel I have much to offer… But I wanted to pop in and wish everyone well! It is such a journey they are on. Now I’m learning the ins and outs of having a kid living and working in NYC. Another stage on the journey. Happy travels to us all!

I think all the 2019’ers need to be paired up with an experienced MT parent-buddy. One that you can text/email/call/carrier pigeon and whine, cry, complain & get advice from. If anyone wants to adopt me, I’m all for it! ;)

On a more serious note … I cannot find the post/thread that mentions what type of bluetooth speaker thing-a-ma-jig to get for Unifieds. Honestly, I’m so scatterbrained at this point that the post I’m looking for is probably right in this thread.

Anyone help?

We bought a memorex bluetooth speaker for about $30 at TJ Maxx… it has fabulous sound and is easy to use. My husband is a musician and is super picky about sound quality, and we bought a second one for him to use at work. I’ve heard of people spending hundreds on these types speakers, but really, why? This one is great and I can spend what I would have on the ‘name brand’ on extra voice or dance lessons instead.

KaMaMom, funny about the parent-buddy. My freshman son has a Senior-Buddy :)

Here is a thread from this past season regarding speakers.

Thanks @MTmom2015! My D is Class of 2020 but I started thinking about that. Trying to ease the financial burden at least a little bit. Just thinking about the amount I will be spending during her senior year scares me!

I am in spreadsheet Hell. Does anyone know if accompaniment is provided @ Chicago Unifieds for Ithaca? Can’t seem to find it on their site

@tmygirl - Ithaca provided and accompanist at Chicago unifieds last year. Don’t know what that means for THIS year, but there you go :)

Where is the edit button? “an” accompanist.

Thanks @ toowonderful. Just noticed Elon prescreen deadline is Sept 15. Uh WTH? Not gonna make that one. My son is recording his on 9/20

@tmygirl - are you sure that’s the prescreen date? I have that as the application deadline for fall auditions. I have the prescreen for early auditions as Oct. 15. I’m reading from my spreadsheet. I did not go to the Elon website to double check. It looks like the have a separate due date for the winter/spring auditions.

@W2BeHome‌ I am cross eyed @ this point! I think you are absolutely correct! Whew! I thought my S would be in good shape submitting everything by Oct 1st. When I read 9/15 my heart just about stopped! Time to back away from the computer. Thank you!!

Anyone going to MTCA October Mocks?

We are currently scheduled for October MTCA mocks.

@evilqueen‌ Same!

Yay, we’ll also be at the there

I mean, we’ll also be at the October MTCA mocks. Need to learn how to edit.

:-) yay!

@tmygirl - I completely understand. I have been working on this spreadsheet for the good part of a year. It is color-coded, highlighted, and sorted to death. I have a database print out from this spreadsheet for each school and I’ve printed the degree plans for as many of them as I could find. Even those are color-coded and sorted into “theatre”, “music”, “dance” and “gen. ed” courses. (What? Who does that??)

I’m not even sure D is going to go this route at this point, so it seems everyone is way ahead of us. Yesterday, I created a new spreadsheet by pulling the overlaps from MT and vocal performance possible schools. I also have a calendar with the application/prescreen deadlines in one color and the audition dates in another color for about 20 schools. (That’s sounds crazy!!) I just needed a visual tool so I could show her why she needs to figure out if this is a go or not. I really do enjoy the searching, organizing, and geeking out with the spreadsheets. My D worried that if she didn’t end up going for MT, I would have wasted my time. I’d rather be prepared than scramble at the last minute to figure all of this out.

Wow!! That’s a lot of work!! My son just caught the bug last year, so I am playing catch up to all of this :/. It is what it is… We’ll see. I will be a little relieved when all apps and prescreens have been submitted! Trying to navigate all of the info and requirements has been overwhelming for me. Taking deep breaths! It took me 5 hours today to fill in only 6 out of the 16 schools info into the spreadsheet. Ugh!
