@efinand, certainly, the environment matters, and some of the reasons why kids from the urban core don’t do as well as kids from rich suburbs on average is because they’re more likely to get shot, have to live with gangs, deal with an unstable family life, and deal with financial stress.

Unless you’re saying that going to state school would mean a greater chance of getting shot, gang problems, an unstable family life, and financial stress, however, I’m not sure how that example is relevant.
