Class of 2020 National Merit Discussion

Tick, tick, tick… the seconds are slowly ticking… Will cutoffs start leaking on Tuesday?

Does anyone know if UTD offers a NMSF visit day for prospective students?

Yes they do! You must register to attend and registration isn’t open yet but the dates are: March 6, March 13, March 27, April 3, April 10 and April 17
the link to register is at the bottom of this page https://www.utdallas.edu/enroll/visit/events/national-merit-scholars-program-preview/

I hope Monday brings some news though it will more likely be on Tuesday since I won’t have cell phone or wifi for most of the day :-/

Good luck @3scoutsmom! I hope news arrives soon!

Our score is exactly the last year’s cutoff in MA. Hope the cutoff score doesn’t change this year. Also any chance one can advance to the final with a ~3.2 UW GPA and ~3.72 WGPA. Thanks.

@matt2024 no one can say for sure, but anecdotal evidence holds that Cs on the transcript are problematic but not automatically disqualifying. You hear about kids with excellent records knocked out by a couple Cs, but you don’t so much hear about any particular GPA keeping you out. Don’t know if that applies to your situation or not.

@3scooutsmom thank you for the tip on how to PM!

Anyone heard anything? This wait is getting painful. ?

I’ve been checking this page the entire day! I’ve heard nothing :frowning:

How will people hear? from schools?

What can you do?

If you are a GC or are friends with one, ask if the have any info (especially ‘the book’)

Of you have any connections with the homeschool community, ask them. Homeschoolers historically have gotten word first because they are their on GCs and principals.

I’ve posted a request for info on our local homeschool group and will call our GC on Wednesday.

@3scoutsmom I belong to an active homeschoolers group and will let you know when info comes out there.

The wait is agonizing. I know colleges often get the scores before our kids. Do they also get the list of NMSF before we do?

The first notifications for NMSF go out by bulk snail mail directly to the high schools. We think they’re going out this week, but I’m not sure anyone knows for sure. Do we?
Homeschoolers are notified in this mailing as well which is why everyone has their ears to the ground in those communities.

has anyone ever tried calling National Merit and asking, “um… what’s up?” i’m not saying that i would do that, but i’m just curious if anyone ever has. plus, the wait is killing me, and my mind is wandering into strange, control freak areas!!! i have called them a few times, because my son did alternate entry, and they are super helpful and nice. i guess for privacy reasons they probably couldn’t give out info over the phone about a specific student, but could they at least say if they have mailed out the info to the schools?

I took the advice of border1218 and called. They said they were just preparing to mail today.

Thank you @Minismom! To clarify- did they say they were mailing today or just preparing today?

Said “we were just preparing the mailing today”.
