@ChrisG77 we might be neighbors! I’ll send you a PM
Art updated his blog today basically saying that NMSC sent things a week late this year. Not exactlly breaking news…
Same blog - someone from NM has already heard they are a semi-finalist.
@wkknc5 I’m not sure that was from official NMSC verification, her kids scores were several points over that state’s historic cut offs so it could have been someone at the school just saying she made it, which i’m sure they will, but the post didn’t say they were given the official log on info yet so we can say that the school got the mailing yet.
Any information on National Merit cutoffs yet? My FL child has a 220 SI so is on the bubble.
whoops didn’t see your earlier comments, thanks
I agree. NM Corp is in IL so it is unusual that the first score came out of New Mexico. We should have heard from homeschools and other states by now.
So if you are a semi-finalist, with a qualifying ACT or SAT score, straight As, good recommendations and a good essay, complete the paperwork, etc., are you certain to proceed on to finalist or is highly competitive between semi-finalists at that point?
If you have what you listed and no behavior or crimial issues, you’ll be a NMF
@WillowMom With all of those things, and your application submitted on time, you are certain to advance from semifinalist to finalist.
@BunnyBlue and @3scoutsmom - thank you!
What if you don’t have good recommendations but everything else is solid? No one at our high school knows my dd. She is full time dual enrollment and has never taken a class at the high school.
At a lot of high schools there is a form that students give to the teacher who is writing the letter of recommendation. The student uses the form to describe the achievements and positive qualities that they would like the teacher to include in the letter of recommendation. It could also describe hardships, like having to work part-time while in school. If the school doesn’t use a form then you could simply write the information out to give to them when you make the request for a recommendation.
Who writes the recommendation for the NM application? Is it a teacher or school administrator?
@FLParent888 If it helps…I think your daughter will be safe with a 220! We live in FL and mine has a 219. She took the “easy” Oct 24 test and only missed two questions but I don’t think she will make the cut.
@Minismom That October 24th test was so unfair. I hope your daughter makes the cut!
Lots of students that took that test will make the cut. Let’s not diminish their accomplishment. Good luck to all!
I had dinner two blocks from the NM offices the other night. I should have peered in the window to see if they had a big chart on the wall!
@Cheeringsection I totally agree with you. I in no way meant to diminish their accomplishments. I of course, hope it works out for mine, but realistically am not optimistic. I actually just think their accomplishment is that much more impressive!
my son is above our state cut off, but he did alternate entry so i am worried we didn’t dot every i or cross every t in just the right way…or what if we did the math wrong and he isn’t above the cut off???. i’m very anxious to see something in writing!
