Also full ride at UNT which doesn’t seem to get as much attention as the other big enchilada scholarships.
This site hasn’t been updated so details may be (more and more) out of date: http://nmfscholarships.yolasite.com
But there are a few more schools that provide full-rides to NMF. Idaho out west, for instance.
@cincodad thanks for the info. One thing I noticed for univ of Florida is your child must be a. National merit scholar which is different than national merit finalist.
@twinmommy , it has been my understanding that if you list UF as your 1st choice school on your NMF page they give you their school sponsored scholarship and thus you become a National Merit Scholar. Others with more direct experience than I can correct me if wrong, but I seem to have read that on here in another thread.
Do homeschooling parents receive the notifications that were mailed yesterday?
Whoops. Just noticed you said hs parents. Not sure.
@twinmommy my middle child is in his 4th semester at UTD and it’s the perfect place for him. DS was auto admit to UT Austin but turn it down in favor of UTD and couldn’t be happier! My youngest will start UTD Fall of 2020. He has been to many summer comp sci camps there and is very familiar with the campus. Both are National Merit.
Yes.
@CincoDad University of Alabama Huntsville provides very close to a full ride - not COA. Their offer includes full tuition up to 8 semesters, 18 credits per semester, full room & board, and $1000 toward fees each year. Fees tend to be over $500/semester so out of pocket costs are less than $500/semester.
Nothing here (NY)
@Reebtoor
Which state are you in?
Hello friends!
I’m a national merit semifinalist who graduated early from high school and is currently in college.
I haven’t received any rejection letters, but as I’m sure you know, I’d feel safer having a finalist confirmation letter.
Since I’m an early graduate, does anyone know if I get a letter sent to my house starting yesterday, or if that letter goes to my previous high school? I’ve been searching around the web to find any information, but I couldn’t find anything.
By the way, congratulations to everyone on getting this far!
@mathKids I was answering what I believe was a generic question: Do homeschooling parents receive the notifications that normally the schools receive that were just mailed out?
The answer is yes. The school notification goes to homeschooling parents. I think the envelope does not usually show up on USPS Informed Delivery due to its size (bigger than a #10 envelope because it contains the NMF certificate). Usually, homeschoolers are how we at CC know schools are starting to receive the certificates. It’ll probably be Friday. Last year mailings were done 2/4 & first three reports were on 2/8 (Ohio, Texas, and Arkansas). Many more rolled in on 2/11 – the same day NMSC mailed finalist notifications to home addresses.
If you want to see how it rolled out last spring, here’s the fun. Starts on this page near the bottom.

I don’t have a NMF candidate this year but I followed this process closely the last two years. My NMF kid is a freshman.
Thank you @Reebtoor. That is why I asked.
Are there any homeschoolers with a NMF candidate this year who can let us know when they receive their certificate?
Sorry if this has already been posted, but this is on the NMSC website as of this morning. (Same kind of timeframe as was reported in last year’s thread, where the link a few posts above will take you)…
“Today NMSC mailed Certificates of Merit to principals across the country, notifying them of the students who have advanced to Finalist standing in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. Letters to Finalists’ homes will be mailed on February 10. Over 15,000 of the 16,000 Semifinalists named in September 2019 have met all requirements to advance to Finalist standing in the competition. All Finalists will be considered for National Merit Scholarships to be offered in 2020.”
So sorry! You are right. I misread the question. The wait must be getting to me. I was really hoping to find the letter in the mailbox today.
Almost there
@mathKids The wait is maddening, I agree. Hold your breath for two more weeks or so (for the home letters). The end is near!
Has anyone been notified by his/her school?
No–I asked our principal to let me know. We live in WI, so he should get that notification today or tomorrow I would guess.
Anyone get the national merit tuition award for Fordham and did not file a css? When i called Fordham months ago, fordham verbally told me we just need to do fafsa for national merit scholarship. Recently i got an email from Fordham requesting a css. Maybe it is a mass email that they ask that of all applicants who havent submitted a css? Anyone else get the tuition scholarship and not do css? I am loathe to do css.
We got the NMSF tuition award from Fordham and only filed FAFSA. We also did not want to ever go through CSS. But we had applied quite early.
Thanks @matt2024. Best of luck with whatever you choose.
