@mtmamma2020 mine goes back and forth between “no information to display” and “under review”
does anyone know if your Ithaca portal will update before you get a letter?
has anyone heard from Ithaca from Chicago Unifieds?
D auditioned for Ithaca at Chicago Unifieds. Crickets here. No letter yet. No email. D just made an Ithaca portal a few minutes ago. You can’t shut off a portal if you don’t have one so we have no status update yet. Maybe they’ll shut it off in a few minutes …
We decided not to check any portals until we have an offer in hand! Don’t want to receive any bad news until S’s confidence can be bolstered by an offer first. If and when that happens, we can check the portals without overdue anxiety.
HS show this week. Hope any bad news holds out until next week!
You have good self-control @claire74. Hats off!!!
I don’t have an access to schools’ portals at all - all managed by D. I wish I have had once or twice, but now I am glad I didn’t… and just waiting until D tells me or opens a snail mail.
I don’t have access either. All managed by D. But, funny thing, she didn’t even know about making an Ithaca portal. I know the schools can reach her through email or accepted or snail mail but I’m sure she’d prefer to know ASAP. Well, maybe, she’d rather know. The problem with the portal is that she can check them obsessively. But that can’t be any different than running to the mailbox or obsessively checking email, right? I don’t know. At least with snail mail you only get it once a day so you can take a breather for 24 hours. With emails and portals you can refresh constantly … LOL. So much for technology making our lives better!!! I say this all tongue-in-cheek. I hope you’re laughing with me.
@musicalkid98, in the past, the Ithaca portal changed the morning of the day you get the snail mail answer. So, if your mail comes early in the morning, it’s about the same time. If your mail comes late in the day, or if it is delayed due to weather, etc., the portal will change first. But it is usually the same day.
@HappyDancer98, we used to joke about waiting for the mailman, listening for the truck, or in my case of a 900’ driveway, running out to the mailbox every 30 minutes or so. I wasn’t allowed to open my D’s mail, but when the big envelope from Ithaca came, I texted her and she checked the portal in school. One of the schools (I forgot which one) sent an envelope that had a big “YES!” on the outside in 2" high red letters. That made it kinda easy. Not sure if they are still doing that…
The west coasters have to wait at least an extra 4 days for snail mail. The portal would always beat that.
We have a bad post office on my side of town. I have had many things people claimed they mailed never come to me. I have gotten other people’s stuff; I have gotten stuff very late. Good thing there are emails and portals.
Has anyone who has received a letter from Ithaca - yes or no - noticed any change in their portal, and if so was the change before or after the letter? Thanks!
My D got a no by letter from Ithaca, portal changed after, by maybe a day.
If Ithaca sticks to its three-week notification time frame, then those at Chicago Unifieds should know by the end of this week. But I’m not counting on it. They saw so many kids at Chicago and LA that I can’t imagine they could process them all so quickly. I’m thinking next week …
Thanks @emdpraze - so sorry to hear that, the no letters are so hard to get - best of luck to your D for the ones you are still waiting to hear from!
My D was at Unifieds and just got her no today. Portal disabled and letter same day.
RE: Ithaca, it seems as though if your portal is still alive, you are still under consideration. I know people who were at NYC Unifieds who have still heard nothing, and their portals are still active. In that case, no news is good news.
Snail mail is not always the best. 3 years ago, my D got someone else’s rejection letter to one of the schools (I won’t mention the school). When I called them and told them, they said, “Okay thanks for letting us know.” I said, “Don’t you want to know whose letter we got so you can send another one?” Nope. They didn’t care. And, there is still one school we never ever got a letter from…we assumed, of course, that it was a no, but never heard officially. Things DO get messed up…human error is always a factor.
Yes, they disable your portal immediately…If it’s disabled, it’s a no, unfortunately!
Ha! Last year D got accepted into a school that did not have a portal and never sent her a letter. We assumed it was a no. Then she got an email addressed personally to her (not a form letter) letting her know that they hoped they were still being considered by her but that if she had decided on another school to please let them know. She replied that she had never received the original offer so they quickly resent all the snail mail materials including scholarship offer. Unfortunately for them, her heart had already been claimed by OU where she now living “happily ever after” …
