Class of 2020 (sharing, venting, etc)

I have a question about Ball State! Are the academic acceptances seperate from the artistic? Just got academic acceptance stating with my intended major as Musical Theatre and the applied transfer music credits i’ve taken that transfer to the BFA in MT, but it’s from the admissions office, not the department of theater.

@actsingdanceMT20

Yes, it is separate. And your major choice does remain MT until a decision is made from that department.

Okay so D saw on FB that a girl from Interlochen has been accepted to Michigans’s MT program. The congratulatory message was from yesterday. Anyone else hear anything?

^^^Your post reminds me…I think it was easier when it came to college admissions for my two kids because it was before Facebook and Twitter and so this kind of information was not readily available (except on CC).

@HappyDancer98 are you sure it was for MT? Because UMich did notify yesterday for BFA Acting, and usually they make all the MT phone calls on the same day and I’ve seen nothing about anyone receiving a phone call so those two things put together make me wonder about this. Which is exactly what @soozievt is talking about!

Please colleges…notify all applicants (with all kinds of admissions decisions) on ONE day of your choosing and tell applicants what that day will be. Would avoid all this additional ANGST!

(some colleges do this, thankfully)

Well, I agree. I saw the post and the comments. She was congratulated for being accepted to the UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN MUSICAL THEATRE (poster’s emphasis, not mine) program and the person being congratulated said thank you and didn’t correct the mistake, if there was one. I think it’s early too, based on my intel. But like we all know here, ANYTHING GOES! (my emphasis :))) I guess we will know soon enough.

And, I should say that, based on past years, Michigan seems to be very professional about this process. They have notified all on the same day or so and in the same manner, which I appreciate along with you, @soozievt . So @rampions I tend to agree with you but it is odd that the accepted student didn’t correct the OP on FB. Sigh.

@HappyDancer98 : sigh indeed.

I would bet that the post is referring to being accepted to MPulse, the UMich summer theatre program?

@MTLUVER the student is a senior. Would a senior apply to MPulse?

Thank you. I am sure my D will want to talk to yours. She is very excited. She met faculty in chicago a year ago at Cs
Vocal competition where they presented master classes and she was really impressed. She is a singer with dance training but knows that her dance skills are not as strong as vocal. I read somewhere that harrt allows students to take extra dance, is that right?

Chicago unifieds

@HappyDancer98 Hmmm. I don’t think seniors that just graduated go to MPulse. But someone being accepted right now just doesn’t sound right to me. But what do I know? Lol.

This would be early and out of character for Michigan as they usually notify all acceptances on the same day. Last year the calls went out around midweek (March 10th?). But then again, there are no rules in this process.

Michigan is on spring break for what that’s worth!

All Michigan notifications go out the same day; the director of admissions made that abundsntly clear the during info session on 2/19. She said phone calls will be made around the middle of the month.

Gee, I really hope that your kids don’t get too stressed out hearing about others’ news like this. Does it really matter if it’s accurate or not? Or what program? It isn’t going to change the decision they receive or the timing of that notification. This process is angst-inducing enough without focussing on things like this that are seen online. I agree with Susan that I am so glad that my kids admissions cycles for their many programs and schools was before social media ruled the world.

A wise parent years ago on CC made the comment that we, as parents, have to be a soft place to fall for our kids. Or words to that effect. If we, as parents, get too involved in the results over which we have no control, we can’t focus on being there for our kids.

Well said @alwaysamom!

Yes, we heard the same @Lawfang and that would be consistent with what Michigan has done in the past. But I read the FB post for myself and it seemed very clear except it didn’t seem right. So I asked on this forum to see whether we had missed something. I don’t think we did but I’m not so sure that this particular student hasn’t been accepted. It could be an anomaly. Perhaps she has an inside track. Who knows? But at least I can feel confident that phone calls haven’t started and ended without us hearing about it. :slight_smile: Thanks for helping me out everyone. I knew I could count on you! :slight_smile:
