Very well said @alwaysamom. I was guilty of not being that “soft-spot” today. I knew from CC that a certain school sends packets out to those who receive offers. So, today a letter came from this school, and thinking I was softening the blow, I said, “Well honey, looks like it’s bad news, since it’s a letter…,” She opened it and found she made the wait-list! Which she was thrilled about. She wasn’t very happy with me for the way I delivered the letter, though.
This forum and social media are such powerful tools for sharing and support, but sometimes I wish I knew less.
I think this next couple of weeks is just a really anxious time for us all, since so many results are forthcoming. I didn’t think I would be checking portals or be interested in how many offers are out so far…but I am. The kids are so tuned in - it’s surprising how much they find out from each other. There has even been a post in CC that involved my daughter, which was a little weird for me.
All that said, I think we are all sharing what we hear/see with the best intentions - to add information and insight along the way. Maybe even to help “soften the blow” for others who might still be hoping or waiting for that certain letter or call.
And now, it’s Saturday night, so I’m going to consume several glasses of wine!
I believe I know what girl is being referred to here and I do believe she was accepted into Univ of Michigan MT. I know someone who is friends with the girl.
I don’t think there’s a new director yet @mtmamma20. I think it’s an anomaly because there is no information on anyone else getting called. And, I agree @alwaysamom we need to be the safe place for our kids to fall. The world is different. These kids are learning about acceptances via FB, twitter, and snapchat in real time. We parents on CC are behind the 8 ball, or at least I am. I’m not very connected on social media --not too tech-y. We parents are just trying to help them make sense of it all so we can be that safe place for them to fall. Thanks to all of you supportive folks on CC. You are certainly a safe place for me in all this madness.
Finally, before I put this one to bed, I have to add that when any acceptance is out and it is reported here on CC, or anywhere else, pulses quicken for those who are waiting for audition results. It is stressful! And, these days, it all happens VERY quickly. If you know a program takes about 6 people, and you hear of 6 acceptances, and you haven’t heard “boo”, you pretty much know you’re not in. The kids can do the math and they do it. I don’t know if it’s better or worse than the old days. It’s just the way it is. This is a difficult process whether you are sitting waiting for your landline to ring and running to the mailbox, like the old days, or you are checking your portals or inadvertently learning things on social media. Thanks again for helping me out when I asked the question about Michigan. I appreciate it.
I’m DYING to hear back from my top choices- PACE, NYU Tisch, Ball State, and Point Park. Anyone know when we should be hearing soon? I’ve looked at other forums but n one knows for sure. I know they started to send out acceptance letters and phone calls last year at around this time (I looked at another CC thread) but does anyone have any further information they would like to provide?
Yes, @mtjones1 rejections seem easier to take once you have one acceptance you like. Sending good wishes to all those who are waiting for the first one. I’m hoping the good news arrives very soon!
I find it interesting to see the different ways in which people deal with the stress of this time. It seems that most of the members here are parents, but some are students. Some of the students don’t want their parents posting information, other students are hear posting their own information. In my case, my son has decided he’s just going to pretend it’s not happening. He doesn’t want to know who got in where, doesn’t want to research any of his options, doesn’t want to track where he’s in and where he’s out. He just wants to forget all about it and be surprised by whatever phone calls or letters show up. There’s nothing wrong with any of these approaches, I just thought it was interesting to see how we all react to this crazy ride we’re on.
Congratulations @MTkid2020! Awesome! @broadwaybabyyy hang in there!! I know you want Pace. They seem to be releasing acceptances slowly. I hope yours is coming soon! I wish you luck with all of your audition results!
As far as kids being stressed and wanting to connect with other high school seniors, there is this Facebook group called “The Troupe”. It’s for students only, people are posting advice and questions and helping everyone out. People normally remain in the group who already finished this process so they can message people about their colleges program.
I would recommend it to any kid that wants to be with a group of people who understand them. Me, as I’m sure most other MT students, feel weird because a lot of our friends and peers already know what school they are going to or are currently picking out their roommate. It’s nice to see other people that understand you and are in the same situation as you.
Happy to hear about the Pace acceptance, and sorry to hear about the Pace rejections! Kind of expecting a rejection letter here, as that seems to be the theme recently. Best of luck to all who are still waiting!
