Class of 2020 (sharing, venting, etc)

Okay I’m having a mental dilemma. I have two BFA and one BA acceptance. 6 rejections, waiting on Viterbo as my last. I’m having a really hard time imagining myself happy at any of the programs I got accepted into. They just don’t seem like a great fit for me. I’m still holding out hope for Viterbo because it’s up my alley (we’ll see lol). I plan to visit my two BFA acceptances as an official “accepted” student and maybe that will really change my perspective? Any advice or stories to help me out? I’m just really unsure and it sucks!

@ABMT16 My daughter is an Acting major, not MT, but had a dilemma as well. In her senior year of high school, she had some great offers (several BA programs–she wanted the academic experience as well–and one program that admits to BFA after freshman year). It was down to two–a BA in an academically-challenging school and the potential-BFA-program. May 1st was a Monday. On Saturday April 29th, she FINALLY forced herself to decide and we had to overnight the acceptance because it wasn’t one you could do online!

Fast forward four years. She’s a college senior in the BFA-after-freshman-year program. It’s not a school you see on top 10 lists. But her experiences have been priceless. Besides the amazing friends she’s made (who she’s on a fun spring break road trip with right now), she’s had some great training in more standard, as well as more experimental-type theater, she’s gotten to originate two roles in new plays at school (one play was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen–right up there with Lend Me a Tenor or Noises Off), and has been invited to a Kennedy Center College Regional Theater Festival. She had never heard of that experience when she was in high school so it wasn’t even on her radar, but in addition to participating in the Irene Ryan competition, she got to attend so many amazing workshops that helped to shape who she is as an actor!

My advice to you is to look at all of your options. Figure out what you do and don’t like about them and make a decision. Someone here recently said that our kids will bloom where they’re planted, and I do believe that. Whether that means that you enroll in one of the colleges that accepted you, or you take a year to figure things out.

Leap and the net will appear.

@lovetoact Thanks for sharing! Yeah I’ve thought about a gap year, but it just doesn’t feel right to me? I don’t care to go through this again and lose my academic $$. Maybe I’ll put faith in a school and it’ll end up being the right decision. Or I’ll visit one and fall in love. Who knows! I appreciate it though.

@ABMT16, Viterbo’s last audition date is this Saturday. So, I imagine they will be making their final offers and a wait list maybe next week. Hang in there. Fingers crossed.

@TNMTDAD I know. I’ve been cursing the 20th the last few weeks cause that’s more than likely the hold up. Thanks for the crossed fingers!

@ABMT16 Once you visit and maybe make some connections you might find that your acceptances aren’t so bad. My son has a lot of no’s and only a couple of yes’s, and none from his top schools. But he started exchanging emails with a Junior at one of the schools, and also started reading class descriptions. We also found a thread here on CC where Freshmen described their typical school day. After learning more he’s getting excited about the school, even though it’s not one of the big names in a big city.

We’re still waiting for a few more results, but I think even if the last 3 are all “no” he’s going to be very happy going with one of the yes’s that he has.

Well, I’m waiting on six schools. But I got rejected from 5 schools in one week. I also got a wait list yesterday with an up and coming program I kind of enjoy. It was jarring to have 3 rejections last week, and two today. One of them was my top choice.

@allthatjazz12345 Ahh I feel you… I also got five no’s for this week :frowning: Already having one acceptance made it a little bit easier, but it’s still really hard to hear no that many times. But hopefully it will all be over soon

Same thing happened today as well. ^^ ugh. It’s not fun. But hang in there @littlebean37 and @allthatjazz12345 rooting for you both! >:D<

No news from Miami or Elon yet- has anyone heard anything yet?

Also, d got wait list for emerson (MT) - In looking at the troupe- there seem to be more on the wait list than actually accepted for MT. I do know that not all kids are on the troupe… but looks like a lot waiting

@sleepymom we’re still waiting on Elon too. Have a friend who still hasn’t heard from Miami. Ugg

I know a boy called by Elon this am calls are being made!

Just got email from Ball State saying I was not admitted for the BFA MT, but redirected to the BA Theatrical Studies (I believe they redirect everyone?). I auditioned Feb 27 on campus. My first rejection, surprisingly it didn’t sting too much as I was fully expecting it

I know a girl called by Elon. She is a great friend to my daughter. Wishing though that my D would get a call as well as we love love that school. Pretty sure it won’t happen. Happy for my d’s friend though

S just got a “time to enroll” email from Ball but still waiting to hear about BFA MT!

Anyone know when Syracuse notifies? Portal has always said by email. But nothing yet…some taking so long.

The Troupe says Syracuse is this Friday or next Friday.

Thank you! Still waiting on them and 1 other.

Does anyone have experience or knowledge of the Theatrical Studies option at Ball State? My D was redirected there as well and it actually looks like something she may be interested in. She loves to perform, but also loves directing, writing, editing, etc. Just wondering if this is a worthwhile program she should consider or just some thing they offer the kids who want to re-audition the following year.
