@websensation Where is he going?
D has several acceptances, now she needs to narrow down the acceptances so when we hear from last 3 she is closer to a decision.
Acceptances:
Michigan State University
Purdue
Ohio State
Kalamazoo College (she’s leaning toward this, very nice merit scholarship)
Central Michigan (small merit)
Grand Valley State (small merit)
Wait Listed:
Butler
Awaiting decisions:
Michigan
College of Wooster
Denison
@londondad He will attend Stanford but may end up taking a gap year. We are not sure yet. My kid took the acceptance from Stanford as a sign that he should not apply to any other schools and enjoy rest of his HS as much as he can without getting Cs. I told him to focus on reading books he wanted to read and improve his writing but so far, he seems to be using his additional time to get involved in non-school, volunteer activities. He wanted to work part-time but most retail stores such as coffee shops want someone who will work more than 3 or 4 months, which is understandable.
Sounds good. It is hard to turn down Stanford! good luck.
D applied to a lot of schools (1st child - so it has been a learning experience for all of us)
Accepted to all that we have heard back from (applied EA to all):
U of Miami - no merit
U of Georgia - in state, earned Zell (free tuition)
Georgia State - accepted to Honors, in state, earned Zell (free tuition) plus additional merit
U of Alabama - accepted to Honors, Presidential Scholarship (free tuition)
U of Florida - no merit
U of Mississippi - accepted to SMDBHC (Honors College) (free tuition, plus additional merit)
Florida State - accepted to Honors, merit plus OOS waiver
Ohio State - accepted to Scholars, Nat’l Buckeye plus merit
U of S. Carolina - OOS waiver plus small merit
TAMU - no merit
Tulane - strong merit
Pitt - accepted to Honors, merit
Baylor - merit
LSU - accepted to Honors, merit
Troy (hubby’s Alma Mater) - received free ride less books
Waiting to hear back from:
UNC Chapel Hill - applied RD (D’s 1st choice)
Vanderbilt - RD
Rhodes - RD
Right now her top 2 are Florida State and Ohio State. She is pursuing Psych and possibly Neuroscience.
^ Why FL State over free tuition at Georgia and Alabama or strong merit at Tulane??
My daughter has one decision in so far, Williams as an early write with pretty much a full ride. Williams is at the very top of her choices so we are all thrilled. She is waiting on about 10 more schools. The wait is definitely less brutal at this point.
Narrowed the five colleges we had applied to and been accepted at (Colorado State, Texas Tech, Mississippi State, Kansas State and Auburn) down to one. Kansas State is the final choice. Animal Science/Pre-Vet. The deciding factor was our last visit there and his acceptance in the Early Admission Program to the Veterinary College plus strong merit. He was accepted to the Honors College there also.
Finally got all decisions!
Accepted to St. John’s College MD (w/ merit), Reed College, Georgia Tech, New College of Florida, and Georgia Southern (honor college).
Waitlisted at UChicago (my top school)
S has acceptances from Northeastern (20K merit), UMass Amherst honors (2K Merit + J&A Adams), Syracuse (25K merit) and was denied from Northwestern and deferred from Yale. We’re waiting on Brandeis (hubby’s alma mater), Williams, Tufts and a bunch of reaches. At this point Northeastern is looking good.
Meanwhile waiting on D’s first SAT scores…she’s a junior.
Just wish March was over!
It has been a long sometimes stressful 8 months since my son started his college search. By the beginning of March all admissions decisions were in. He got into 4 of the 5 schools that he applied to. I am happy that he has made a decision: Physics at Texas A&M!
It is a little bitter sweet because my wife and I are Texas Tech alumni, and we lobbied for him to continue the Red Raider tradition but I have to admit that TAMU is also a great school. Our whole family is going to have to learn new traditions!
Few more decisions came in. In addition to Williams DD was accepted to Harvey Mudd, Reed, and Swarthmore. Wait listed at Pomona and denied at MIT. Still waiting on a few at the end of the month.
Hailumu, is she a chemistry major?
Can’t sleep as I try to wrap my head around what’s happening with my daughter’s college acceptances etc. Very happy to say she was accepted by Williams as a Tyng Scholar. An unexpected and thrilling honor. She thought she had a better chance with Bowdoin, where she was waitlisted. Accepted to Middlebury, but waitlisted at Kenyon, where she also thought she had a very good chance of being accepted. So, our predictions were way off, but we’re not complaining. Still waiting to hear from a few places, but the Tyng Scholarship will be hard to top. I think I need a drink.
@Honito I hadn’t heard about that scholarship before, but looked it up. What an amazing opportunity! Congrats!!!
Thanks @itsgettingreal17 . We’d not heard of it either. It just happened. I’m thinking my D will be a Williams Eph, but we’ll see. She’s yet to hear from a couple of schools that might compete with Williams. I read a while back that your D applied to U Del and UMD. I’m a UMD graduate (great school) and my older daughter was just accepted to UDel’s graduate program in art history and curatorial studies. I think she’ll be going there since she received a nice assistantship, and we hear it’s a lovely campus.
Accepted to Fordham, Emerson, Tulane. Wait listed BU. So. Nervous for her…waiting on five more…
She is a physics major @letsshare
So far my acceptances have been: U of Minnesota Twin Cities, UT Austin, Texas A&M, and now Johns Hopkins! I was rejected at Georgia Tech and am now just waiting on Rice.
I love that @websensation failed to originally mention the name of the school in his (her?) original post, and focused on the other other parts of how the student’s early acceptance by the 1st choice school made life easier for everyone. Only when prodded did the parent admit said school was Stanford.
