@Windows16 —you don’t have to be accepted to the university in order to access the SMBHC application. You do have to apply to special programs, which includes an essay, before you can gain access to the SMBHC app.
DS was accepted! It appeared on his portal the day all documents were received, and a letter came to a week later. Glad to have Ole Miss as an option, still waiting to hear from other colleges but Ole Miss is in the top 3 choices. We are OOS, 2.9 GPA, 1010 RSAT, so no merit scholarship is expected. DS will apply for Art scholarships to help offset the cost.
It’s helpful to see the posts here. I have contacted the University a few days ago regarding specific questions on the honors program, but have yet to hear back.
@gillsherry Did you reach out to the SMBHC directly? Contact them at connor@olemiss.edu…she is the honors recruiter.
What are my chances for SMBHC? I am OOS and was accepted with a 3.73 GPA and 32 ACT Composite (34 Reading, 34 Science, 32 English, 27 Math). I just completed the application for the honors college. I automatically qualify for academic excellence scholarship ($22,750/year). Is additional merit money possible?
@Adhoc17 You’re numbers sound within the range of acceptance. However, they review applications in a holistic manner which includes your essays, resume, transcript and letters of recommendation. So, it’s a complete package for Honors admission, not just meeting ACT/GPA criteria. Once you complete the Special Programs and Scholarships application, that puts you in consideration for additional scholarships. Best of luck!
I’m out of state, do you think I can get in with a 3.1 GPA?
My son got his acceptance to Ole Miss today. We had a LOT of trouble getting his transcript to Ole Miss. We are OOS and had the transcript sent electronically (through Naviance) a total of 5 times. It also was mailed hard copy. NOT one of these copies made it. I kept checking the Ole Miss website wondering why he hadn’t been accepted yet. Finally, I got in touch with the admissions rep for NM and had our guidance counselor personally send her a PDF of my son’s transcript. He was accepted the next day. I am posting on this site in case that might have happened to others too. Be diligent about checking the school’s website. There really was no explanation of why it kept getting lost, but Bess (the admissions rep for our area) was very helpful once I contacted her.
My son’s stats are 3.9 GPA, lots of Honors and AP classes, 31 ACT
My son got accepted last week. Like @baseballmom25 his transcript didn’t go through the first time and he hadn’t noticed. Luckily, I asked him to check the portal and it went through on the 2nd try. What is up with that?!
My son has ~4.0weighted GPA and a 34 ACT. He is going to apply to the Honors College and CME. His only interest in Ole Miss is the CME and he will not consider the school if he’s not accepted there.
@My3Kiddos What other schools is your son looking at? Mine is also looking at Engineering, either chemical or biomedical depending on the school he picks. He is looking at Alabama, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Tulane and Ohio State. So far mine really wants the south, he hates the bitter cold winters where we live. He wants to do a program that has the option for the smaller seminar style honors classes, so SBHC is the draw for Ole Miss. he wants to do medical research eventually, so CME isn’t his thing.
@elodyCOH - My son is interested in mechnical engineering with an interest in robotics/automation. He’d probably prefer to apprentice and work, rather than attend college. Ole Miss is the only school in the south he’s applying to. (He was disappointed in Alabama-Huntsville.) Other than CME, his top choice is probably University of Cincinnati beause of their co-op program. (I don’t know why he won’t consider U of Louisville’s program, but he won’t.) He’s also applying to Valparaiso (championship robot football team is the draw for him) and Case Western (as a reach).
