D was accepted into film programs in UC San Diego (Visual Arts/ Media), CSUN (Cinema and Television), and CSULB (Film and Electronic Arts), CSUF (Cinema and Television). I would love to hear your voice as which school did your D or S accepted and and why.
D is still waiting for a few (as many of you are too I’m sure).
I don’t know much about Fullerton’s program. UCSD has a Film Studies program, which isn’t production but more for critical analysis and history. They do have a digital media minor, but that’s more of a general media production program. UCSD has th highest academics among the four schools, so if she isn’t 100% sure film/tv is what she wants that may be plus for UCSD.
CSUN has one of the best ranked film production programs in the country. The alumni are in the industry and the school has many connections.
@romns116: Thank you so much for your feedback! We will be visiting these schools (particularly these programs) in our spring break and finding out exactly how hands-on these programs are. UCSD does have a major in Media now. Not sure if it is a newer program for them, but yes, this the description: “The Media program is designed for students who want to become creative videomakers, filmmakers, photographers, and computer artists, encouraging the hybridity of media. The curriculum combines hands-on experience of making art with practical and theoretical criticism, provides historical, social and aesthetic backgrounds for the understanding of modern media, and emphasizes creativity, versatility, and intelligence over technical specializations.” It is because of this description that my D was really interested in their Media major.
Anyone has an opinion on these schools? Please feel free to share with us here!
