Class of 2022 - Nepal

@PeepPoop I think you should get into a decent college first before you comment on others’ difficulties. Nepalese were accepted at Harvard (even last year one got into Harvard) before but no Nepalese was accepted at Caltech that takes about 20 international students every year vs Harvard’s 200+ internationals. How do you explain this?

@abysmalintellect boii even the college’s acceptance doesn’t guarantee education in the US. so why don’t you update them only after Visa?

@SexyKtaMoh You don’t need to get into good college to have an idea about acceptances and level of difficulty. Get your facts straight before you comment. Caltech accepted 584 people last year among which 53 were international students. Harvard accepted around 2000 people among which 252 were international. The reason Caltech accepts less international students is because the total number of students it accepts is less not because it is harder. I still think Harvard is tough to get into. Don’t presume as if you know everything about college admissions. We all have done our research and know things as you do.

I am not sure, but you seem like the person who got into Caltech and is desperately trying to defend Caltech against Harvard, else I haven’t said anything that can offend someone like the way you have been hurt and spoke to me.

Funny thing is that Sekyktamoh has not in fact been accepted into Caltech or Columbia, s/he is acting as the ambassador ( or a P.P to be exact

@PeepPoop so you didn’t know Caltech hadn’t accepted any Nepali till now? Where is your explanation for that? Also out of those 53 internationals, about 20 are accepted Early Action. International student needing financial aid cannot apply EA to Caltech. So isn’t it about 30 internationals for Regular Action? Out of those 30, about 10 are international students who studied in the US and have big advantage. So is it not 20 internationals living outside the US who fight for the spot? Where is your maths? And if you think about Gold medalists in olympiads, there are 60 gold medalists in physics olympiad (IPhO) and about the same in almost every other olympiad. So even if 1% of those gold medalists apply to Caltech (which they do), guess how hard it is to make it to that top 20? Point to Note: Most of the gold medalists are from countries like China, Korea, Japan, etc. and guess how hard it is to compete with them. In contrast, Harvard has accepted Nepali in almost every year in the last 4 years. And I am not the guy who got into Caltech and Columbia. if I was the guy who got into Caltech and Columbia with a likely letter, why would I defend against Harvard? I would most likely get accepted to Harvard as well given that a likely letter at an ivy means a very high chance at other ivies.
And I said you to judge the difficulties only after you get into a good college. I was not the one who said Harvard is tougher or Caltech is tougher. Even in my comment, notice that I didn’t mention which is harder or which is easier. I just mentioned the stats, unlike you who without knowing full thing reached a conclusion. Yes I didn’t get into a good college but I also didn’t judge this is hard or that is hard. I just tried to clear your delusion about Harvard because people like you tend to think “Harvard” and imagine Gods attending the place.

@abysmalintellect yes I have not been accepted to Caltech or Columbia, but the guy is my friend so I’m speaking on his behalf.

@SexyKtaMoh Dude Caltech not accepting any Nepali student till date doesn’t make it great. Harvard doesn’t accept students just because they need to have someone from Nepal in their batch, it is because the applicant was a fit to their university. Even university had its first acceptance from Nepal but only when they found a perfect fit for their institution. Caltech found theirs this year. Good for Caltech and the guy/girl. Your logic of Caltech not accepting any Nepalese till date doesn’t make sense to me. ( I am not belittling Caltech. I know its worth, but the way you are presenting the acceptance as one in a million god-like-case doesn’t make sense to me.

Dude the maths you did applies for every university. Among the students accepted to Harvard, about – might have studied in US, – might have been accepted in SCEA, – might be something else, and rest fight for the small number of seats available. I know you are too rigid in your opinion to even regard mine, so let us just keep our thing to ourselves and end this discussion. I still find Harvard tougher than Caltech and you find it vice versa. Good for you.

Next thing is just because you got a likely letter from one ivy doesn’t guarantee you seat in other ivies. As cliché this might sound, this is truest truth in college admissions.

P.S : Next time you have discussion with someone, don’t start with “First get into decent college and talk…” kinda thing. Even if it is an argument in an anonymous site, try to have a decency to converse with people. Read our conversation again and see how you responded to a very general opinion I gave.

@PeepPoop from your post “Does Caltech give sufficient aid to international student? I’ve heard it’s no use applying to Caltech as an intl student.” it is clear that you don’t know anything about Caltech and you still are arguing over how much research you did on college application and how hard Harvard is to get in compared to Caltech. Like dude seriously? You don’t even know about Caltech and you compare it and make inferences about it?

I didn’t respond to a general opinion. I responded to your stupidity of comparing two very different colleges and making conclusions when you don’t even seem to know anything about Caltech and its international policy. And you talk about fit. How on earth do you think the same person can fit into Caltech and Columbia? And about a few years ago, a guy got into 3 ivies (including Harvard), MIT, Stanford, Williams. How on earth do you think he fit into all these colleges?

And why are you using dashes there for Harvard? So are you basically implying that you have no idea about Harvard just as you had no idea about Caltech from your previous post on “sufficient aid to international student”?

So from my previous comment, I hope you realized that Nepalese aren’t accepted just because of fit. Harvard, other ivies, MIT, Stanford value diversity and that is a big reason why most Nepalese are accepted in these places. But caltech doesn’t seem to have such a mercy because if it did, at least a Nepali would have been accepted in all these years of college application. again I am not going to argue with you any longer @PeepPoop because you and me arguing over Caltech and Harvard is like virgins arguing who is harder to sleep with, Alexandra Daddario or Adriana Lima. So let’s get some decent girls before comparing super-models/actresses. This is exactly what I intended to say actually when I said "I think you should get into a decent college first before you comment on others’ difficulties. "

It would be funny if you two end up in Youngstown State University. as roommates.
