Class of 2022 - Nepal

Can anybody explain what OF means? Like what’s GBS/OF?

OF = Opportunity fund .

Just how strong are these two candidates? Both OF and got into multiple elite colleges. To have such candidates from Nepal is a matter of pride.

nope

Can someone please tell me how OF helps someone to get enrolled in elite colleges? Most of the students who have been selected in first tire universities are from OF. But the OF form says that it will help students for aiding costs for SAT and university application only. How is it useful for the long term to get enrolled in universities?

Does USEF recommend OF receivers?

Anyone got accepted from Hamilton?

As I see it, OF has now transformed itself into more sort of a private guidance counselor, where they polish and polish the application and greatly exaggerate the ability of OF students to an unfair advantage compared to that of other students. So, while the students themselves are undoubtedly nice, OF has helped them more than merely providing $$$ for their upfront cost to apply.

As per the fact, I don’t see why we should be proud of them at all. I can bet my ass that they won’t come back to Nepal after their college, and will rather rot in US. If they don’t help Nepal, we Nepalese have no reason to be proud.

How does OF students getting placed into elite colleges imply OF “[transforming] itself into more sort of a private guidance counselor”? Wasn’t OF always doing that? And if you are salty about OF students achieving whatever they have achieved, you can do the same as well. There’s a apply button that you’ll have to press, fill in a few info and if you are qualified enough, they’ll take you.

Why would you “bet [your] ass that they won’t come back to Nepal” when you do not know for sure what their intentions and plans are? If you were thinking of studying in a good university and staying in the US- fine, sounds great. But trash-talking about a program that opens the door of opportunity to qualified students to pursue their higher education in a place that has been reputed because of their quality, and about students who have deserved it in every single way possible does not sound right to me.

I have never been affiliated with OF in any way and I am studying in a liberal arts college in the US. My high school has always been underrepresented in the CollegeConfidential lists that Nepali students create every year. And I plan to return back to Nepal after my education. Please consider replying to my opinion based on the context that I have presented.

Many past OF students who have received education from elite universities have returned to Nepal to give back to their community, so there is no reason to believe that this batch won’t do the same. You are merely projecting your own poor belief on others, dude. And USEF doesn’t exaggerate the abilities of OF students so that US universities would take them despite them not being competitive. The program merely provides the upfront costs of applying to deserving students for whom the financial situation of their family would be a deterrent. Students are only admitted to the program after a rigorous selection process. They are all competitive enough to make it to universities without any favoritism. Don’t pollute this thread with your senseless assumptions.

@abysmalintellect you have inner demons to deal with boy. You are so blinded by jealousy that you are talking baseless crap about other well deserving students who worked hard. You should be ashamed of yourself.
